Scenes From My Week

This was the week of the blue moon and despite many attempts I was unable to get a decent photo.  My hope is that when I read this in later years it will serve as a prompt and I will remember its beauty.

It has been a week of storms with several ferry services been cancelled including the freight service.  It has certainly made for some very dramatic skies and raging seas.  We did have a little trip into town  to do a top up shop.  I am pleased to report that I am hopeful of another low spend month as we have such a build up of provisions both in the pantry and the the freezers.  I do feel blessed that we were able to buy in such bulk in readiness for the Winter months.

Wrap up warm and  buckle up, it will be a slow drive .

Fortunately it brightened a little as we entered Stornoway so we were able to have a little stroll and enjoy a fish supper.

Lunch out and treated to some beautiful daffodils, does it get any better than that?

It looks beautiful out today but sadly will not last, more snow is heading our way early next week.  The weather seems to dominate our conversation these days.  Who knew we would be checking the weather forecast and ferry website every day this time last year.  We are now waiting for Gerard's medication, no freight means no deliveries.  You certainly need to think ahead living life on the edge.

I am heading to the kitchen for my weekly baking session.  Have you any plans?

See you soon.

  1. What dramatic skies, Lorraine, and glad you had a safe drive. We are having bitter cold weather here in NH but no new snow (yet). My plans are to not do much as it’s my birthday weekend and thank you for the well wishes we were much appreciated.

  2. They are indeed dramatic skies. When our medication comes by mail or in your case by ferry, we do indeed need to plan ahead.
Because we live 10 miles from town we always try to get as much done on each trip as possible.

  3. Wonderful skies, very Lorna Doonish. I just battled round the shops, that,s 2 hours of my life gone, and now I am enjoying some r&r on the sofa.

  5. How many hours of daylight do you get at the darkest point of the winter?

  7. Such amazing photos, my friend.
I hope your hubby's medication arrives soon, safe and sound.
It is freezing here in PA, so we will attend mass and then come home for the remainder of the weekend.
It is supposed to snow tomorrow, so I hoe my sister can make it up for the Super Bowl.
    Have a cozy afternoon baking!!!

  9. I don't know if I could cope with all that snow you get. Daffodils are always a good sign though.

  10. I didn't even know about the blue moon until after it had already happened.
I feel like the weather here is so hard to keep up with, it keeps wavering between being freezing and feeling like early Spring.

  11. The blue moon was completely missed in my corner because of storms. Bummer! Is your husband’s medication anything that can be stocked up on? Probably not or you’d already have done so. May the weather improve. Happy baking!

  12. Wow...more storms? Nice choppy ocean photo and the wooden bull statue is cool! It's good to have extra food on hand as one never knows that weather or when disaster will strike. I am going to bake cookies this afternoon, finally. Been eating the packaged ones we have stocked up on near the holidays. The blue super moon was so pretty, but too tired to take photos. Thanks for the ride now I best get lunch going and some hot tea as well! Hugs and blessings!

    I wonder what you baked??

  14. I love reading your blog and seeing all that's going on in your part of the world. It wasn't easy to get a photo of the moon. Skies here were cloudy and it was bitterly cold. We had snow again yesterday and temps are going to be bitterly cold again this week. Sigh. I can't wait for Spring! This is the time of year when winter seems to start dragging.

  15. I wish I was there for your baking session! Your baked goods always look yummy. We're making vegetable soup from left-over beef etc. I'm with you on the low-spend February. We still have lots of stuff stocked up in the cupboards that we still need to use up so we're going another month.

  16. I enjoyed the drive today. Those seas really look choppy and I'm glad I'm not sailing on them today. We're having unseasonably warm weather. We even drove to the trailer at the lake this afternoon and hiked in. There was about 1 1/2 feet of snow on the ground but we didn't even need jackets! The lake is still frozen over too. I know we'll have more snow yet, but days like these give me hope winter will end at some point. :-)
I would have loved to join you in your baking session. You are wise in preparing ahead. Can you also order the medications in advance. Our insurance won't let us get them before the time allotted so I'm afraid that we would run out in your situation.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  18. Wasn't the moon sooo bright, my photos didn't come out at all as the surrounding countryside was just blanked out and no amount of fiddling with the photo editor brought then back. Good job you are so well stocked up.

  20. I imagined it would be quite dramatic to live on a sea island in stormy weather. Makes for beautiful scenery though.

  23. Great pictures of the moon, with it being so bright, it is hard to capture it well! Looks like a long drive you had, but glad you made it there and back safely! The weather this year has been unsettled everywhere it seems. Having lots of food in the pantry is always a blessing. Blessings to you :)

  24. Wow that looks pretty wild ! Fortunately you took foresaw enough food ! With our grey and covered sky I see no moon or sun ! It's true weather becomes an all over the world conversation.
BTW after the TV had come, the next day our they came with machines and 6 workers and repaired the whole thing in a day !!!

  26. What a bouncy ocean! It's good no one had to go out on the ferries. Keeping the pantry and freezer full of food is a must on your island. I hope you enjoyed your baking day.
