I did take some small projects away with me but I was so busy that a not a lot got done. I was away from the cottage for 6 weeks in the end and all I have to show is a doily. It was made using a vintage pattern but coloured cotton to give it a contemporary feel.
The cotton was a little thicker than the pattern recommended so it has come up larger than the pattern states. It now needs to be pinned out and sprayed to show off the beautiful lacy pattern. It may end up as a cushion cover, time will tell.
I have so many vintage patterns that have been a joy to collect, but this is the year that I intend to use some of them. I am really enjoying the process of browsing through them all at the moment. Another task that may take awhile, decisions...decisions. It would be nice to attempt them all but I need to be realistic so the process of elimination continues. This is the year of the vintage pattern. What are your crafting plans?
See you soon.
It came out very nice ! I have no patience for knitting or crocheting. I loved to decorate rooms. Now I am writing, that's what I love.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful !!!!!
ReplyDeleteHave a cozy weekend !
Anna
Very nice. I love old patterns too! We have yet to put our decorations away. I'm waiting for warmer weather.
ReplyDeleteYou did find some good bargains at the thrift stores, I haven't been to ours in a while and I should. Christmas has been taken down, but it's still being put away.
ReplyDeleteSuch a pretty doily in such a cheerful color. I, too, love vintage patterns. I’m always on the lookout for them when I go to thrift stores. However, I have never found as many as you did on your trip! My crafting plans this year are about the same as usual. Lots of charity knitting and crocheting, with some gifts in there too. The big difference is I want to do more reading this year, so may not get as much crafting done. I hope you have a wonderful weekend. Blessings, Betsy
ReplyDeleteYour doily is lovely. We've done quite a bit of culling out the Christmas items we no longer use. It feels good to have two large boxes to donate. I hope to begin my needle felting again. The winter is a great time to begin again. ♥
ReplyDeleteI have some vintage doily patterns that I inherited. I hope to make a couple of them someday. I love the color that you made. Very pretty.
ReplyDeleteI wrote out mine on my latest post. Vintage doilies are nice and I scoop them up if they aren't too expensive. I don't crochet! I am home doing cleaning and off my feet. Need to make up a batch of quik mix so I can make biscuits to go with dinner tonight! I need to go through Christmas items as well. Was just thinking about that this a.m. Sigh! Blessings across the miles/waves!
ReplyDeleteBravo on getting that doily done.. they are a lot of work and I love the color you used. My craft plans begin today as I'm joining Lucy at Attic24 on her Woodland blanket CAL. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)
ReplyDeleteI started taking down the Christmas decorations and trees today. It's not nearly as much fun taking it all down as putting it up was! I have one under-the-stairs closet area where it all has to fit into.
ReplyDeleteLove the colour and the pattern! Have a great day!
ReplyDeleteDoilies are extremely beautiful!
ReplyDeleteIt does take time to settle down after being away for a while. Deorations down and packed away here too:)
ReplyDeleteMy plan is to use all my collected yarn and thread by the end of this year or dispose of it and start over. Like you, I have lots of vintage patterns for doilies, and I use doilies on my dining table on top of the tablecloth, I have lots of colored thread.
ReplyDeleteI think patterns for the US and UK are different, aren't they? Or do you do ch, sc, dc, tr etc like we do?
I think I made some doilies with that same pink thread. Mine is size 10 which is actually bedspread thread.
I used black size 10 thread to make a doily, but it ended up being a table topper for one of those little decorator tables. Oh, well. It's all good.
A lovely doily, both color and design. I always take projects with me on holiday and hardly get anything done. I take that as a good sign, too busy having a good time :-)

Such a pretty color. I have some vintage patterns that I need to get busy using, too.
ReplyDeleteYour crochet work is just lovely! It seems to me that instructions in vintage sewing patterns are much easier to understand. I wonder if it is the same with crochet. One of my regrets is that I never learned to crochet. When my husband's grandmother offered to teach our young daughter, I encouraged her to learn the art. She has done a lot of beautiful work, some of which she has gifted me.
ReplyDeleteWow!! they are very nice.

That's so pretty. You'll be itching to get back to crafting with a six week break, I always take lots of things away with me and never seem to pick them up. Reading is something I do a lot more of when I'm away from home.
ReplyDeleteHow beautiful that doily is and I love the colour you’ve chosen. I’m hoping to discipline myself a bit more this year and use up some of the stuff I already have xx
ReplyDeleteIt really is beautiful and that color seem to make the design pop!
ReplyDeleteVintage patterns sound interesting with so much time left in winter to get some projects done. I'm still painting away and hope to get some sewing done too.
ReplyDeleteI remember those doilies with much affection and might even still have a few that either I or my mother in law made. I wish I was closer as I have a few vintage crochet patterns that someone gave me that I know I won't use. Thank you once again for leaving a comment on my blog. Yes a lot goes on behind the scenes with elections. despite being married to someone whose job was running federal elections, it's been an eye opener for me. A lot of public money goes into them that's for sure.
