An Lanntair Open Exhibition

A beautiful day with blue skies and some rather unusual cloud formations and although I still felt a little chilly and once again wore long sleeves, neighbours could be seen in short sleeves.  Temperatures reached 16 today which apparently is good for this time of year.  I am led to believe that although the temperatures are not as high as the mainland in the summer months, they are not as low in the winter months.  There is rarely any snow or frosts.  We are slowing getting the outside painted which is a wonderful sense of achievement for us both.  One wall at a time...

A slow process but we are getting there.  We have the two main side walls left to do but rain is forecast for tomorrow so as I say, a slow process.  We will be working on the bathroom until we can get back outside.  We do take plenty of breaks,  taking a rest and doing a little crafting.  I have made a bag for the guest bedroom for storage purchases, it looks good with the new hanger.

It was good to be able to look through the stash of fabric to find something suitable.

The art exhibition on Saturday was a joy to stroll around, there are many talented artists on the Island.  It was difficult to choose a favourite they all offered something different but in the end I think due to my love of yarn/sheep this was the winner for me.

Sadly there are a lot of reflections on the pictures but I think you can see the very high standards.

This last one a tapestry, such talent.  When you consider the population of Lewis/Harris 20,500 people at the last census there are a lot of very talented artistic people.

Shearing seems to be the focus of many at the moment I will get some photos shortly of them without their coats.  In the meantime I happened across some black sheep on my back from town that I will leave you with today.

Aren't they a delight.  We have started to countdown the sleeps until Victoria arrives with the boys, we are so excited.  Have you any plans for the summer?

Once again thank you for your comments and encouragement I am really enjoying sharing my little adventures through life on this beautiful Island that we now call home.

See you soon.

  1. The picture you chose as your favorite was mine too. It was a little harder to see, but looked wonderful. Wondering if they were for sale or just to admire?

  4. You are making good progress on your painting. Painting is hard work, so I'm glad to hear you are taking breaks. I enjoyed seeing the art show. I too love the sheep piece along with the ones you photographed. ♥

  5. Your home is so welcoming in its fresh white coat of paint, and your practical, pretty, crafted decorations are invitingly arranged to greet your loved ones who come to stay. Thanks for letting us admire your settling in and today's sheep both live and painted :-)

  6. Great paintings and that tapestry!!!!
Your painting around the place is coming along but it must be frustrating to have rain postpone your plans to get it done.
I love the bag you made for the guest bedroom. You even put deep pockets in the side. I use that kind of a bag for shopping but mine is not nearly as pretty. You make amazing creations.

  7. Someone will have to not only paint the house, but paint your home...it would make such a darling painting. I can see why you like the photo of the sheep...the wool looks as if you could reach right in and touch it. Lovely texture.

  8. Doesn't it all look good in the sun. Your neighbour will be after you to paint theirs as well! Maybe next year you'll be exhibiting some art too.

  14. I love the first photo of the painting of the sheep. There must be a large proportion of talent in those who have chosen to live on the islands. I also think your climate sounds perfect for me, not too hot and not too cold. South Carolina is pretty miserably hot at the moment.

  18. I'm not a lover of the cold weather so I think the lower summer temperatures may be a good trade off for lack of snow and frost in winter. The art exhibition looks fabulous, some wonderful paintings and hard to choose a favourite, but I think I agree with you.

  21. Looks like your home is moving along to become the way you want it and it's great that you are nit rushing it. Taking breaks is a good thing especially when it involves going to an art show. Did you consider buying the sheep painting if it was for sale?

    Where are you?
And a very high quality art exhibition.
    Cheers.

  23. As soon as your page loaded, I noticed the change in your cottage instantly! It's been a few weeks between visits so the change is striking - so fresh and bright. Anyone can see how much your home is loved. When we see the same scenery every day, it is easy to overlook the little changes that occur from day to day but when you compare the same scene over time, suddenly all those little changes stand out. That's how it felt when I returned to catch up on your news, Lorraine.

I love how you made a bag that does double duty as both decor and storage utility in your guest room. I admire anyone who has the creative skills to create their own style using whatever they have at hand. Anyone can see a scene in a magazine and rush out and buy all the same with money, but to put together a personalised style takes confidence and talent. I can imagine that your cottage will offer your visitors a homely, warm welcome thanks to your creative efforts.

  24. I think you chose well. I love, love the sheep painting! Wool is such a wonderful fiber...nothing compares, I think! You are definitely getting there...one wall at a time. Lots of work, for sure, but so rewarding.

  26. Wow, your house looks beautiful ! It seems you have the same climate as I had in Ireland ! Always between 16 and 19, was good for the tour at least it didn't rain ! I really had a nice tour ! It gets never really warm and the sun also is rather stingy, but we had no rain and to walk around when it is too hot than it's not good either ! The worst was the day we had to seperate we all became such good friends that the guide even created a Facebook page so that we can all stay in contact !

  27. I feel such a sense of peace when I read your posts. You are living a bit of a dream of mine. The sweet little cottage of yours is perfection in my eyes. I love the pops of color from your crafts after looking at the white of the outside of your cottage. Such pretty contrast!! Those black sheep are so beautiful as is all of the art work you shared. I have to say I look so forward to your posts when I get the chance to catch up with all of my favorite bloggers. Summertime leaves me less time to do that than I'd like to have but I'm not complaining. : ) You must be so excited to see your family soon!!! xoxo
