Thankfully the weather was not amazing which gave us the perfect excuse to stop painting, we were both in dire need of a rest. All the hard work was beginning to take its toil, so we have done very little all weekend with regards to the cottage. We have watched a couple of Christmas in July films that we recorded, mindless TV that doesn't require any thinking about but are uplifting for the spirit. We have read a little, chatted a lot and started planning and booking our Nov/Dec Florida holiday. The beloved Christmas book has been out too.
We have decided that it will be small, quick craft gifts this year alongside something shop bought. We have prioritised the cottage this year and making it as comfortable as possible. I did browse a couple of Christmas books for some inspiration for tags and cards but to no avail. I want the cards to have an Island link so I am thinking Harris Tweed as the main focus. I would also like the present topper to be Harris Tweed but as yet have come up with very little, apart from brooches in Christmas colours.
Since moving Mickey has taken to making life as comfortable as possible for himself. I have been trying to train him back into his bed, telling him he his a floor dweller.
But to no avail, he prefers a chair and who can blame him...
...he even adjusts the cushions. He is one clever dog.
Finally as promised, naked sheep. Shearing has begun!
The process has begun, it is a wonderful thought thinking that their coats will become the infamous Harris Tweed, or some stunning wool for knitting and crochet projects. How was your weekend?
See you soon.
I love this post around a life in a beautiful cottage

I am sure that whatever you decide to make for Christmas it will be lovely! You have a very clever doggie too!
ReplyDeleteI should think you were ready for a rest. You have both been working so hard.
ReplyDeleteHow gorgeous to be snuggled up in your cottage watching Christmas films and planning for Christmas....sounds like sheer bliss to me-x-
I don't blame Mickey for using a chair. He looks very comfortable. I'm looking forward to seeing your Christmas makes this year, however small. X
ReplyDelete"As promised, naked sheep" hahahahaha...
ReplyDeleteYou folks who are brilliant and organized regarding Christmas impress my socks off.
I know I just say this whenever you post a picture, but Mickey is so beautiful! Your rest time sounds ideal, we all it from time to time.
ReplyDeleteWonderful post, and I love your beautiful photos!
ReplyDeleteHave a quiet week !

We need a rainy day so we can finally paint Miss Kitty's bathroom.
ReplyDeleteMickey loves the chair with the cushion! Have a happy day!
ReplyDeleteMickey looks very content in his chair. Love the sheep too. I think with all you have done, a weekend of rest is just what the doctor ordered.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Betsy
I so admire all the work you're doing to make your cottage a comfortable home. We have been in our Victorian home for 8 weeks now and I have spent a lot of time phoning different trades men to do the work that needs doing for us! But we have done a lot to the garden..thank you for your encouraging comments, I need every one.!!
ReplyDeleteI don't think I have seen sheep shorn so closely!
ReplyDeleteLove your Christmas organizer!!!
ReplyDeleteAnd we love Christmas in July here!
Enjoy your life in that amazing cottage, my friend!
A very quiet weekend here. The weather continues to be very warm and so dry. There are many many wildfires farther north of us ( we live a matter of a few miles from the US border). A week of rain would sure help those firefighters out.
ReplyDeleteMickey is a very handsome dog!!
So grateful to the sheep and their lovely contribution to yarn related hobbies. You deserve a break, you've both been working so hard. I can't quite think about Christmas yet, maybe next month, I do love you little organiser book xx
ReplyDeleteYou deserved a restful weekend. Love the sheep, so sweet!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you were able to take a weekend break. It's good for the soul to step back from our work sometimes. Your Mickey is a smart fellow. ♥
ReplyDeleteIt is important to take a break now and then to renew the spirit and the motivation. Mickey is adorable and the shorn sheep are wonderful. I can just imagine the projects that will be made with their wool.
ReplyDeleteWe'll take up the torch for house-painting tomorrow! :-) I think your darling dog looks just right in that chair. They want to be part of the family. Our dog is always in a chair or on our laps. Love seeing your neighbor sheep. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you took time to rest. Fixing up your cottage is quite the task and I'm hoping the rest gave you more energy for the coming weeks ahead. One day of rest a week is a good thing! I've thought little about Christmas gifts right now. Most of my thoughts are on our celebration coming up in Oct. Friday my daughter and I were at the coast to visit my sister who came down from WA for a few days. Closer to see her on the coast. Fun and nice weather! Yes, I like seeing your neighborhood's sheep! Many ways to use the wool for sure! Happy week!
ReplyDeleteHa! This afternoon at the grocery store I was delighted to hear a little boy singing, "Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer" and I thought how it cheered me to hear him sing it on July 10th!
ReplyDeleteNow you have encouraged me to ponder how I will prepare for our Christmas celebration. Thanks for sharing the pics of your cool sheep :) Bravo on pacing yourselves as you feather your nest! I finished the Ruby shawl last night at midnight and a post to celebrate is forthcoming. xx
It is time usually now to start thinking about Christmas. I love the Rudolph organizer you have there.
ReplyDeleteFlorida vacation planning sounds good and that is where my husband is from. I think he misses living there.
I need to be more like you and organize my time and make it work in getting things done. I love reading your blog, gives me ideas and I love where you live, beautiful country.
betsy
Oh goodness not Christmas! Probably a good idea though especially when you are making things, I'm sure you'll come up with something brilliant.
ReplyDeleteChristmas already! But I know you're right. As for a quiet weekend, I think you deserve it, I'm impressed with what you have achieved since arriving on the island, it's good to see a dream turning into reality.
ReplyDeleteYou think of Christmas already ? That's for me the most awful time in the year ! If I could I would disappear until it's over ! The naked sheep look funny, I hope they don't get a cold !
ReplyDeleteI like the sound of tweed and wool based ideas for your gifts, I suppose if you are making things you have to start early especially as you have so much to do with your cottage and a holiday coming up too. We had a very inactive weekend due to the heat:)
ReplyDeleteI'm sure it was nice to have a break from DIY at the weekend, it will have done you good to have a little rest and think about other things, if only for a couple of days. I don't blame Mickey preferring a chair, Archie's just the same, in fact he gets very unhappy if someone's occupying the chair that he wants to sit in.
ReplyDeleteMickey knows what is comfortable and the floor isn't it. He is a handsome boy!!!
ReplyDeleteThe naked sheep look so funny.
our old dog Zoe who is no longer with us loved a spot on the couch. She would not give it up for company! Also she hated to sleep on a couch crack. oh well. Frodo is small enough to sleep anywhere, he is usually under the ottoman. lovely that you had a day of rest. I like your idea of a simple holiday.
ReplyDeletePainting is such hard work. We painted the exterior trim on our house over the winter and early spring and it was grueling. I'm glad you took the time to rest. How fun to be planning your Christmas gifts and celebrations in July. You'll enjoy the anticipation and be finished with the hard stuff long before everyone else. :)
ReplyDeleteStarting Christmas now is so smart,
ReplyDeleteThe sheep look very interesting
Hope you come visit and follow me
I will be back
You know, I have been thinking this week that I'm going to start making a list of gifts I want to make for christmas so I can get an early start this year :) Mickey is gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteYou have been working very hard on your cottage and certainly need a few slower days to recuperate. Thinking about Christmas is a good plan.
ReplyDeletePainting is hard work and you most definitely need to rest a bit! Mickey is a cutie-pie. Dogs sometimes have their own minds.....The sheep must be so relieved to be free of their winter coats so we can have ours! I can't even think about Christmas, but I know I should be. xx Karen
ReplyDeleteMy dog prefer the couches over being in their bed, mostly I think so they can be close to us...they love to snuggle. Those naked cheep look like something I've never seen! You surely can see how fat their tummies are...LOL!
ReplyDeleteIsn't is wonderful when you are able to stop a bit and enjoy each day? Painting is hard, and I know you want to be finished, but the process is fun also :D Naked sheep means more fiber for this spinner! :D mari
ReplyDeleteNaked sheep look ridiculous and embarrassed. I think it is the big noses exposed from the frame of wool. It must feel pretty good though.
ReplyDeleteEek, Christmas! I have some lovely blue Harris Tweed left from my duffle coat, happy to send the scraps to you if you like. Our dog is spreading out on the sofa, cheeky thing. x
ReplyDeleteOh my I am not ready for Christmas yet... lol! The sheep are adorable, hope you are settling in well. Enjoy the weekend
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Jill
Let's not think about Christmas just yet! x
ReplyDeleteOh weekend, why do you always leave so soon?
ReplyDeleteAmalia
xo
Hey there, good to see you are settling in so well. Looking forward to catching up on your news after taking a break from blogworld. Love your dog, my son will be moving out soon and taking his dogs with him, I will miss having pooches in the house.
ReplyDeleteWonderful that you are enjoying your new space......as well as your cute dog!
ReplyDeleteHow neat to think of the sheep there! I am glad you are enjoying your adventures there. Mickey is adorable. :)
