Windy In Paradise

Another windy day here in paradise, even the weather forecaster said it was unseasonably windy.  My washing is pegged out on the line using double the amount of pegs usually used and it is all doing the loop de loop around the washing line.  We had a quick stroll to the shore to admire the breaking waves and collect some large stones/rocks to use to anchor the bins down.

The frothy waves crashing along the shoreline are mesmerising, the only sign of life apart from ourselves are the gulls.  You really do feel like you are on the edge of the world.  The power and strength in the water is a little daunting but exhilarating at the same time.

I have already painted some of the rocks red and black to make  ladybirds and give the front garden a little colour, as a temporary measure.  Two of the larger ones will be perfect for the gates.

I did use emulsion paint and then a yacht varnish to seal it against the elements.  It seems to have worked quite well, but time will tell.

I also painted a couple of small ones that you can just see on the edge of the plant pot, a little ladybird family.  I also painted  noughts and crosses on some and used a manhole cover for the board.  A little fun for when the children visit.

July is nearly upon us so we are starting to get a little excited as it is July that our first little visitors arrive.  We have been busy ensuring all the familiar toys are unpacked and that we have lots of new things for them to explore.  We decided against trying to fit wardrobes into attic bedrooms, preferring a simple chest of drawers.  I did want a little something so that clothes could be hung if required so I have decorated some wooden hangers and put some hooks on the wall.

Simple but effective storage solution for our guests and made with love.

Back to sheep with a few gulls thrown in.

Back to reality and some dirty windows that really do need my attention.

See you soon.

  5. Dirty windows will always be around...wash them today and you could do it all over again tomorrow. ☺ I laughed to imagine your clothes winding around and around the clothesline. It may have taken Herculean efforts to get the wash in! Your solution for hanging clothes is darling. Happy preps for your visitors. What an adventure for them it will be!

  9. Stunning shots of the waves! I love your ladybirds - I will need to pick up some big flat stones next time we are on the beach (but not today, as it is still raining steadily!!)

  10. I would love to see the wind on those rocky coasts some day! I have been working on family history lately (when I get a moment here or there) and it sure is fun to think about my family from that area. I LOVE all the things you've made. That tic-tac-toe board is great. It's funny the way you says clothes are pegged on the line, and I guess we say pinned. Do you say clothespins at all? :) Or is it just pegs? xo Lynn

  12. I love those hangars! How did you do them? Paint? Decoupage? So pretty and cheerful. And I think the tic tac toe board is so fun.
Clothes dried outside smell so lovely. We have rules against clotheslines in our sub (!!!) but I still put out some folding racks on my deck to dry clothes in the sun. Such a gale force would definitely blow these clear off my deck.
Yes, I can imagine it does feel the edge of the world. Beautiful pictures. xo

  14. What cute ladybug stones and a great game use for those other stones. I know you are really looking forward to the family July visits and your handiwork on the hanger decorations is really so creative and lovely. Windy days are great for drying clothes outdoors as long as they don't get blown away!

  23. Things I like in today's post: Crashing waves, adorable sheep, pretty hangers
( especially the Dove gray ones with the checked bows) and the painted Lady Bugs. I have one I picked up years ago and the paint has held up well in spite of being out in the weather all year round.

  26. What a joy to visit your blog today...such wonderful photographs. Loving the ladybirds....I have a large doorstop stone that I bought many years ago in Robin Hoods Bay....painted with sheep riding bicycles, The Tour De Yorkshire....(I'm not quite sure how I carried it back up the hill to the car though, it's quite weighty)...Thank you for your continued support and comments over on my blog. Take care. Debbie x

  29. Honestly, it gives me chills to look at your pictures and read what you write about living there. Those waves breaking, the rocks, all of it amazes me. It is beautiful there. I had missed a couple of your posts, but just caught up. Your little hangers are adorable and so are the lady bugs. You make me want to go find some rocks to paint. Enjoy every day there!!

  30. That sea looks wild, but very beautiful. The ladybirds are fabulous, I'm sure the grandchildren will be taken with them when they arrive, as they will the noughts and crosses, what a cool idea.

  31. You are so talented. I'd never have thought of any of your creative ideas. I want to be six years old again and your granddaughter.

I also want a nice walk on the beach. It feeds the soul. Since I landlocked myself in the middle of the USA, I find myself yearning for a little time at the beach.

  32. Here in Dublin it's also very windy ! I almost blow away, lol ! I am lucky with the weather the sun is even shining this morning. I used to transform pebbles into cats and it always made nice gifts. You give me the idea to do it again !

  35. Fantastic photos of the waves, I can almost hear them. You are so full of creative energy with the ladybirds and the hangers. And ### the Windows, a bit of dirt can act as an insulator.

  36. those rocks are cute :) I'm not a fan of wind but I'd rather have wind than no wind at all and being hot. We are in a mini heat wave here and we are only the beginning of July!!!

  37. Your hangers are so pretty, but gosh, I do love your ladybirds even more! So cute and so practical at the same time!

  38. Oh so gorgeous! Your preparations for the children are simply charming! The teddy-bear reminds me of my childhook. We used to have toys similar to that - jointed figurines made of flat wood, mounted on a stick and strung in such a way that we could make the arms and legs dance. I wonder if there is a pattern online for that somewhere...
