Weekend

A quiet weekend spent homemaking, baking, jam making and crafting.  Relaxing and enjoying each others company...

There were a lot of MDF sheets and wood offcuts left in the outbuilding which we intend to put to good use.  Already doors have been made for the attic openings in the bedroom and Gerard intends to box in some pipework in the lounge.   An electrics cupboard will also be made.  There were a couple of sheets that were quite dirty so they were used to cut out some shapes so far a boat and a butterfly.  An anchor for the bathroom will follow.

They have been painted grey and  either wallpaper or fabric added.

The wallpaper is the same one used for the drawers in the bedroom so is a wonderful addition.

The boat was covered in Cath Kidston  fabric and looks quite effective in the bathroom.

Some good old fashioned bread pudding was made to use the bread that was going stale.  Put in the tin which should last a few days.

Both strawberry and peach jam was made. In the past I did like to buy local and pick my own strawberries from a local farm, but here on the Island that was not possible.  The next best thing was to buy as local as I could which turned out to be Perthshire, they certainly tasted good.  Of course I had to test them...several times.

Finally there was a downpour of rain last night that I thought I would share.  It was bouncing off the road and  falling horizontally, a phenomenon I have never seen before so quite a sight. The photograph does not really do it justice, it was incredible.

Hope you all had a wonderful weekend.  As always thank you so much for your most welcome comments and emails.

See you soon.

  2. What a clever idea cutting shapes and covering them. Makes them that much more special. I am guessing you have a jigsaw cutter?

  12. I can imagine how happy it made you to christen your new cottage with some home-made jam and new crafty decorations. Your rain reminds me of some of the downpours we have here in Oregon occasionally. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  17. You get so much done and your crafting with the mdf into a butterfly and the boat covered in fabric, I never thought of this. Love your blog and seeing all of the things you and your husband do. You pack a lot into week ends, puts me to shame.
I love to see down pours of rain like you have pictured, I like hearing it hit the roof. Don't need to much of it though.

  18. You've done amazing things with those cut-outs!!
Your jam looks very tasty! Do you use Pectin, or do you boil it until it thickens? The latter is how my Mom always made her jam.

    1. I just boil it until it thickens, I only use 3 ingredients fruit, sugar and lemon juice. Very simple but it works.

  23. Looks like the rain we had yesterday! Your wood cut-outs are pretty, and the jams look great! I would love to learn to put foods up myself, but I buy things like that as well. Looks like you made a good choice! xoxo Lynn

  25. There's something so satisfying about pottering about home on a weekend. You accomplished a lot. Are peaches ripe already in England? Our strawberries are ripening and we are picking them everyday - not enough for jam because we eat them fresh. I'll buy some for jam-making.
The boat cut out is adorable! Great idea.

  27. As you might imagine, this Saylor especially admires the sailboat you made 🙂 Your jam looks so pretty and yummy. When we lived by the beach in northern CA we often had horizontal rains and it was impossible to use umbrellas without having them turn inside out!🤗
