Five on Friday

I can't believe we are back around to Friday already, the weeks are just flying by.  We are having a heat wave over here in the UK at the moment and even on the coast the winds are quite calm and the temperatures seem to be soaring.  There is a lot of holiday makers looking a little like lobsters at the moment, the wind by the sea lulls people into a false sense of security therefore people get burnt very quickly.

The garden has been idyllic this week so my five this week is produce that we are enjoying.  I was inspired by many posts this week with some rather yummy strawberry recipes therefore my number one is strawberries:

I only have about 12 plants but they are producing a lot of strawberries and the sun this week is ripening them very quickly.  We have been enjoying iced strawberry mint tea sitting in the sun.  So my number two is mint such a wonderful combination.

Three is lettuce that we are eating on a daily basis, so much better than shop bought.  There is a real sense of pride in enjoying the fruits of your labour.

We have grown two varieties this year both with quite different taste and texture.  Lolo rosso and little gem, definitely on the list to do again.

Number four is spring onions the another beautiful combination with the salad leaves for a side dish with almost anything.

Finally peas, they are not quite ready to harvest but are coming along nicely and are a wonderful, versatile addition to the garden.

I am once again joining Amy over at Love Made My home for the weekly Five on Friday fun.  What have you got growing in your garden?

  3. Excellent gardening!

Your strawberries look amazing - there is nothing quite like freshly home grown fresh strawvberries is there?

And there's just so much nutrition in growing our own, or locally grown buying - as it is supposed to be, not chemically and genetically altered no-taste-in-it-whatsoever produce. Just bleh.

Have a wonderful weekend, Lorraine! Hugs!

  4. Your strawberries look delicious!

My garden is mostly ornamental (orchids), but I have a small herb garden with parsley, mint and basil. Steve has a white habanero pepper plant and I have a beautiful large air plant and two pitcher plants -- one of these days I'll have to put the up on the blog. :-)

  5. Superb produce from your garden. I miss this. I grow every year but as we are moving the garden around and renovating it the veg patch has been neglected and used as a temporary storage area. We managed to grow and eat new potatoes though this year. How do you make Strawberry mint tea?

    1. Make up your iced tea as normal, add strawberry syrup as a sweetener to taste and sprigs of mint. Leave to stand for an hour or so in the fridge ass strawberries as many or as little as you like. A lovely taste of summer.

  7. So nice to see all your plants doing so well and beautifully. They are also so healthy looking. It is a joy to be able to enjoy your own garden's produce.

  11. Your crops look yummy, I love strawberries but have never been that successful in growing them the slugs and birds seem to get to them before me. I have a huge crop of blackcurrants at the moment I'm hoping to make some cordial but need to buy some bottles first, I'm never organised! have a great weekend. :)

  12. Bravo on your harvesting thus far! It is hot across the pond here in the Pacific Northwest, too. I have a sun gold cherry tomato plant that is promising to give a good crop of tomatoes, and I have already enjoyed basil and rosemary from my plants. Our massive wild cherry tree is tossing us some little sweet dark cherries that we, the squirrels and birds are enjoying, too :) Your strawberry mint tea looks especially tasty ! Happy Weekend!

  13. Your garden is still ahead of ours. But ours is growing in the heat wave we are having....high 90s this week and little relief in sight. NO rain. Friends of ours were at the coast last weekend and it was in the 70s there. The ocean is maybe 53 degrees so it was steaming from the heat differential. We'll be out later and it's gonna be warm We have tickets so we have to go but cooling will commence soon in the evening! Take care and enjoy your mint and strawberry iced tea!

  14. It all looks good. Especially that lettuce! So nice to enjoy produce right from your own yard. Sadly, too hot here for anything right now. I'm lucky to keep alive the plants I do have. Best wishes for a great weekend. Tammy

  15. Yummy strawberries!! You get gigantic strawberries here but do you know they just don't taste much. I always say the English strawberries are sweeter. Makes my mouth water to think of them!!! LOL!

    keep well

  19. Just popping in to thank you for the lovely comment on my blog. You are showing up as a no reply blogger which means I couldn't reply by e-mail. Your garden looks lovely and tasty too! Speaking of sunburn, I have a mild one this evening as I spent the day in my friend's new pool! It was delightful though...:) Have a blessed weekend!
