I love the smell of sheets that have been hung to dry outside. I have also been busy altering a dress that I came across in the pile for getting rid of as I didn't like the neckline.
Instead of discarding the dress, I decided to make it into a skirt ready for my trip to Florida in the Autumn. I cut out the zip and cut off the top, then simply re stitched the seam and turned over and sewed the top edge. A few simple adjustments and it is now an item of clothing that I will wear.
Amie, my daughter and her little family moved home a couple of weeks ago, so we are going down for the weekend to visit. I have some Cath Kidston fabric that she adores so I have made them a table cloth and a runner for their new home.
I have edged the cloth with some vintage lace to give it a luxurious feel. I have also stitched a plain runner for the coffee table in the same fabric.
I hope they will be very happy in their new home. The rain has certainly saved us a job of watering today and has given some of the blooms a renewed lease of life, the sun was giving them a hard time and making them wilt. They are coming back with a renewed vigour. What's the weather like in your neck of the woods? I am certainly getting the impression that there are some unusual weather patterns about at the moment.
See you soon.
I love sheets dried on the clothesline! That is such a good idea for the dress. I love the table cloth and runner. You do such pretty work.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds much damper where you are than we've got it further inland. That cloth is so pretty!
ReplyDeleteSounds like a very successful car boot sale. The dress you have altered into a skirt is great. The fabric looks very pretty so it's wonderful to get more wear out of it.
ReplyDeleteYour sewing projects turned out great. Love the fabric you chose for the runner.
ReplyDeleteOur weather? CRAZY thunderstorms. I'm doing sheets and towels today too, but they won't be hanging out unless I want an extra "rinse"! LOL Thank goodness for electric dryers!
HOT and DRY in Portland, Oregon which different than our norm for this time of year. But like you, I have to admit that I have enjoyed some of the warmth...especially while lounging under a shady tree :)
ReplyDeleteHappy new home to your daughter's family. Your gift to her is lovely and your refashioned dress is so pretty! Yay for your good sales!
Very nice! You always do such a good job.
ReplyDeleteThose fabrics are wonderful - and I too remember well the smell of freshly line-dried sheets, from childhood. We aren't allowed to do that in our suburban neighborhood that I live in now though. :(
I agree there is nothing quit so nice an sheets dried on a clothesline in the sun. They guarantee sweet dreams:)
ReplyDeleteFresh smelling laundry from outdoors quite nice. Glad you got some rain. We need it in OR. It is a few degrees cooler today than it has been. Lovely of you to make gifts for your daughter's new home. Take care!!
ReplyDeleteThey will love that table runner. It is always exciting in a new home. Jo x
ReplyDeleteWell done at the boot sale that was really good , I love the kath kidston table cloth to , Beautiful xxx
ReplyDeleteYou did great on the dress adjustment and table runner. Over here, the heat wave is bad, we are sweating and just want to spend time in air-con rooms.
ReplyDeleteI agree - drying laundry outside makes my heart skip a beat - it's just so fresh and down-to-earth. I took every opportunity to dry my washing outside during our mini heatwave. :)
ReplyDeleteOh I do love to get my washing dried outside as nothing beats the
ReplyDeletesmell of freshly launded washing.
Well done on the car boot, and what a brilliant adjustment to your dress.
Love, love the Cath Kidston table runner.

Seeing the sheets on the line reminds me of when I was little. There is nothing like that fresh smell! I am sure your daughter will cherish those lovely gifts you made for her...love the fabric and vintage lace!
ReplyDeleteWashing dried on the line has such a lovely smell. I'm sure your daughter will love her home-made gifts. x
ReplyDeleteYou are so clever. x
ReplyDeleteI am so much a summer girl too, we have a cold snap in NZ at present. You can feel the snow off the mountains in the air. Your repurposed dress looks like it will be beautifully cool to wear.
ReplyDeleteSo talented, great way to recycle a dress. Not sure what a car boot sale is but I'm guessing it's like a yard/garage sale? You did very well. Enjoy the nice weather and your visit.

Our mini-heatwave was fun (while it lasted...), wasn't it? I also got all my bedding washed. It isn't often that you get the opportunity to dry all the sheets outside around here - normally I hang everything outside, then leave the house for a few hours, and when I come back it's rained and everything is more wet than before! ;)
ReplyDeleteI like the fabric of your dress/skirt - it's so satisfying when you manage to turn something unloved into a wearable item - and well done on that car boot! I went a few years ago and I think I made about £25, which I immediately spent again on things that I found on the other stalls!!
I want that hot weather too. IT is just too cool this summer so far in Chicago. Little blips of real summer then boom bamm, cold!
ReplyDeleteTodays cold and grey.
Happy new hOme to your family!

ReplyDeleteI just love that fabric!! I'm sure your daughter will love it!! I told my honey that I want to have a laundry line when me move. I love how the clothes smell when they've been air dried!! xo

Mama, you are one handy gal! I like it all - the new skirt, the tablecloth, the runner. And, for some reason, I love photos of laundry hanging in the breeze. Love them!
