Poetry

I covered a plain brown notepad sometime ago with great plans of making a journal and recording my creations.  Making notes of patterns and adjustments.  This went by the wayside for one reason or another not sure why.  The journal was empty and unused.  Whilst looking for a notebook to make a record of the poetry I had been writing for the church website I came across it and had a light bulb moment.  The perfect place for some creative writing...

I have had fun sorting through drawers and arranging papers and toppers into categories.  Browsing the stacks of paper and the stunning array of colours.  It was like going through treasure, I had so much fun.  It certainly filled a couple of hours and was a joy to be working on something constructive.  It was a task that gave me purpose and a delight to put everyday issues to one side.

I have left some space around the papercraft to write notes and record how we coped and were feeling throughout this pandemic.  The poem slots into an envelope.

I have been trying out different styles of both journalling and poetry.

I have also made a start at looking through some of the creative writing courses online.  It is my intention to enlist onto one of them.  Maybe, a taster course first to see how I get on.  There are so many free courses available at the moment so I feel it is the perfect opportunity.  You are never to old to learn.  My only problem is the intermittent internet connection.  One of the issues of living on a remote Island.  We have also been warned to expect blackouts due to power cuts and to keep torches and a blanket handy.

Sadly, 2 cases of coronavirus have now been confirmed on the Isle of Lewis so the pandemic has suddenly become a reality for us now.  Inevitable I suppose, although I had harboured a secret hope.

There has been a reduction of the ferry service.  They are now operating an essential lifeline timetable as a result of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.  Freight is still coming across so there really shouldn't be too many shortages if everyone is sensible.

My dear Dad was taken into hospital in the early hours of Tuesday morning struggling to breathe due to his COPD.  My heart is breaking as we are unable to be with him.   The fear of anything happening whilst he is in hospital on his own is tearing me apart.  All we can do is wait.

Hope all is well with you and that you are filling your days.

See you soon.

  2. Praying for you and for your dad. The Lord is with each one of us and there need be no separation from him. Sorry to learn that the virus has found your community. I , too, had hoped that you’d be protected from it there. God know. He cares. He’s on the case.

I adore your project and your poetry. It is inspiring and lovely.

  5. A delightful way, to bring a couple of hours of Joy, into your life.

Best wishes for your Dad. Yes, this is a very, very hard part, of this horrible virus. Separation of loved ones, at this time.

Many, many, many gentle hugs to you, Dear One...

  7. It's a terrible situation especially for you with your Dad in hospital ! I shouldn't complain, because my family is safe at home. Slowly I have gotten used to this prisoner life, better to cope with it. But still sometimes I find it hard not to be able to go out to see an exposition or cinema ! This virus really goes everywhere even to your little Island !

Very sorry about your dad - this not being able to visit family is probably the hardest part of this whole situation, I will pray for a good recovery. Please look after yourselves.

  10. Good Morning sweet Lorraine. Your journal is absolutely inspiring. i enjoyed reading the poems that I could see and would love it if you would continue sharing with us.
I'm so sorry that this virus has found it's way to your isolated corner of the world. It truly is insidious and doesn't miss anywhere does it?
I'm also very sorry to hear your Dad is in hospital. I pray he will ot have to stay there long and they will get his situation under control quickly. I think they are trying to get most people out of the hospital and back home to avoid infections. May that be the case for him. I will be praying for him and for you all. Can your Mom visit? Here, no one is allowed to visit anyone in the hospital except for new births. Then, only the Father is allowed in.
What strange times we find ourselves living in.
    Love and Blessings my friend,
    Betsy

  14. I am so sorry to hear about your dad and his COPD problems - with my asthma I know how awful it is when you can't breath easily. I heard a woman from Lewis on Woman's Hour this morning, talking about Coronavirus, and I thought of you.

What a beautiful journal and poetry and I hope that writing in it will help you through these difficult times. My thoughts are with you.

  19. I'm very sorry to hear about your father's health. It is so hard when we can't be with our loved ones when they are ill. I pray that he will soon improve and be able to return home.
Your poetry book is a great place for collecting words and thoughts. I would like to spend more time writing some day, too. I'm keeping a journal about this current situation as I think it will be interesting to read in future years.

  20. A poetry journal is a great idea! And you had an unused journal just waiting to be put to good use.

  21. Oh Lorraine! Difficult days. Wishing your father the best of care and a positive outcome. It is so hard to be a long-distance carer.
How are you and your husband faring? I have been away and will need to catch up on your news.
Never underestimate the power of journalling!
I keep a journal (which I will share on my blog one day) and it's a great source of comfort, inspiration and perspective.
I love the creative ways you have decorated yours and especially like your last poem here about faith and being stronger together. Faith is a most powerful force. May yours never falter. xx

  23. I am sorry to hear about your father but I am sure he gets the best care possible. He is in my thoughts.

I have just ripped out the ten or so pages from my journal... two years after my last entry I decided it wasn't working for me and the journal will be repurposed as a work notepad... I hope your own journal continues to give you pleasure and comfort.

Intermittent internet is a problem here, too. It must be the sheer volume of traffic that is causing an issue. Fingers crossed you won't need your torches with the days lengthening and power companies maybe adjusting to new demands. Take care x

  24. I'm sorry to hear that your Dad was taken to hospital. I can understand your concern and pray that there will soon be an improvement with his breathing difficulties.
My husband has to manage his asthma with medication too and he's also vulnerable to chest infections. I hope that power cuts do not happen for you on your island to add to the difficulties. Journaling is a good idea and you are creative with the way you are organising the contents of yours so that you include your inspiring poetry that can be enjoyed later by your church fellowship. I keep a journal. Every week day seems the same at this time of staying indoors so my journal helps a lot to keep track and remind me of what I did and when. (I try to keep Sunday special and different). Thank you for your blog friendship. Speak again soon.

  29. I have the same disease as your father. Hope he will be better soon ! So far it's OK with me, despite my vintage age of 77. It's sad that somebody brought this vicious virus to your beautiful island ! We started far earlier with the confinement and very strict, now we have another 2 weeks to go maybe shorter until they let us free again. But we are on the good way now, the statistics say that the number of infected and deaths are decreasing ! Hopefully yes ! Do you have rubber gloves wear them when you go out. The virus can be everywhere !

  33. Your journal book is nice. I occasionally journal. I enjoy your poetry. Keep it up! Many people have been tested positive for covid-19 but many more have recovered than died. Only 2 in a veterans' home died from it but 13 others there overcame it! Awesome! A friend of mine is making me a mask to wear when I am out, if need be. Yes and No to wearing a mask. Only wore one Monday whilst out shopping for groceries after dental visit. I pray your dad will get well soon. Hope to see our grandchildren soon. Usually get together on Easter. Not this year! Take care and hope you and Gerard stay well and safe! X-------X

  36. A GREAT SPELL CASTER (DR. EMU) THAT HELP ME BRING BACK MY EX GIRLFRIEND.
Am so happy to testify about a great spell caster that helped me when all hope was lost for me to unite with my ex-girlfriend that I love so much. I had a girlfriend that love me so much but something terrible happen to our relationship one afternoon when her friend that was always trying to get to me was trying to force me to make love to her just because she was been jealous of her friend that i was dating and on the scene my girlfriend just walk in and she thought we had something special doing together, i tried to explain things to her that her friend always do this whenever she is not with me and i always refuse her but i never told her because i did not want the both of them to be enemies to each other but she never believed me. She broke up with me and I tried times without numbers to make her believe me but she never believed me until one day i heard about the DR. EMU and I emailed him and he replied to me so kindly and helped me get back my lovely relationship that was already gone for two months.
