The Joy Of A Car Boot Sale

What a warm welcome back you all gave us it was a wonderful feeling to know that we were missed.  Last week I  made a start visiting your blogs and trying to catch up but I think it will take awhile.  It certainly was a busy week trying to get back into a routine, unpacking washing and ironing the list goes on.  The hospital and doctors appointments seemed endless but all is well, once again thank you for your emails of concern.  Gerard has a new regime of medication which started last week and assessments as we need a little help with some extra equipment.  What a difference having some extra tools have made for his independence.  We were of course both very tired it was a long trip and a long time to be away but we wouldn't change one second of the joy we had.  We spent quality time with our three daughters and their little families so lots of adventures and outings.  We were also blessed to spend some time with my Mum and Dad who are still doing well, so that was wonderful creating some lovely memories to cherish.

As you all know I am a great fan of a car boot sale so it was a delight to be able to take a stroll around  one whilst away.  Yes I did pick up a few bargains so I was thrilled.

8 x 100g balls for £4 perfect for a project I have in mind for the long Winter evenings.

These were 20p a ball which I thought might work for the edging of a shawl.

Scrapbooks which were priced up at £2 each but I got them all for £7.  I simply asked what her best price as if I took them all.  I also bought loads of bits and pieces for cardmaking and scrapbooking off the same stall so lots of bargains.

Some old crochet patterns were found for 10p each to add to my collection, I love to take them out and browse through them.  I do also use them now and again and get great joy from creating something from a bygone era.

It was also a joy to be able to tick things off my shopping list as we had little outings around the shops.  I have finally found the perfect fabric to be used for the lining of the tweed coats for Wilbur and Hector.

Wooden embellishments seemed to be featuring everywhere and are always useful.

Some header tape for the new valances I have in mind for the kitchen.  Along with some new pens for my bible journaling and a beautiful pair of glass knitting needles, which I fell in love with.

Notebooks were bought from Home Bargains so cheaply and are perfect covered and given as gifts.  I bought some Harry Potter fabric for the grandchildren so are perfect for their stockings.

I fell in love with the Christmas fabric of the trees on the trucks/cars, that was my only impulse buy but I am sure I will make something out of it.  I have done all of my Christmas shopping whilst away as there are so few shops here on the Island, a little early I know but reassuring to know that I am not under any pressure.  I still have a lot of gifts to make as hampers and a crafted gift always feature, along with handcrafted cards and tags.  We are once again going on our travels over the festive period so not long until we see our loved ones.

Isn't it strange how little things can bring so much joy.  I love a stroll around a car boot sale and the pleasure of finding treasure amongst someone else's rubbish.  How do you feel about a ca boot sale?

See you soon.

  4. Somehow a car boot sale sounds much more fun than a yard sale or flea market, which is how it’s done here. You really scored big!

  5. WOW....you did so well with all of your craft buys and you have some lovely things.
I don't mind a car boot sale but there don't seem to be many in our area now. There is one several miles away but it starts very early on a Sunday morning and we would have to be up at a ridiculous hour to get there for opening time. Also it's one of those that has been going for years and the same things just keep going round and round on the stalls getting ever more expensive so it isn't the best one to go to.
Great news about Gerard and the extra help.
    Hugs-x-

  8. I'm so glad you had such a good time with your family and that you're mum and dad are doing well, not to be taken for granted as they get older, I'm glad you were able to spend some precious time with them. Such fabulous bargains you've come home with, I can see a lot of crafting in the run up to Christmas, I can't wait to see what you do with it all.

  9. Lorraine, it was so good to hear from you. I'm so very happy that Gerard has some equipment that helps him be more independent.
You found some lovely things at the car boot sale. Great deals on the yarn especially and the doily pattern books are wonderful. I, too, love to look through old patterns and try my hand at some of them.
I was just thinking this morning that I need to get busy on Christmas gifts as soon as we return home. I used to be done by Oct. 1 but no more. I have a hard time thinking of gifts as we aren't around our children to know what they need/want anymore.
Take care and say hello to Gerard for Dennis and I.
    Blessings my friend,
    Betsy

  10. Oh dear, I don't like them at all. I don't "do" any garage sales or yard sales or what you call them.

I don't craft, so am not looking for such items. And I am always trying to get rid of things. And feel, that if I go to those sales, I'll just be bringing in, more stuff. Other people's stuff. :-)))

that's just me! And I know, I am in the minority! I know!!!!! :-)

  17. We are usually walking around one looking for bargains (we sell antiques and collectables), but I often have to stay my hand over lovely old pieces of china as I have too many already! I like to find crafting items as well, and have had some good buys from boot sales (patchwork, embroidery threads and wool).

Glad you did so well at the one you visited and are all set for the Christmas gift making.

A lady was buying all sorts "for Christmas" in the Range yesterday including about 20 frosted glass jars for tealights. I am not that organized (though I have bought individual gift through the year when I see the perfect thing for a friend or family.)

  18. Wow, what fabulous bargains you found. We have garage/yard sales here but it would be nice to have them all in one location. We do have flea markets but it seems like it's the same old 'junk' all the time. So glad to hear Gerard is having some relief and that you were able to get lots of family visits in.

  22. Good to see you are back and some great finds for sure.
Look forward to seeing what you fashion from all of your fabric. We have had trunk sales around here but I think I am going to start calling them car boot sales, I like that better.

  23. It's good to know you are settling in once again and that Gerard is finding good support there. What a lovely haul you took from the car boot sale - so much scope for all kinds of handicrafts.

  24. You found lots of bargains at the car boot sale that will be useful for your crafting and gift giving. I've never been to one although I like to take a look around charity shops especially looking for wool for my crochet work. The chat with stall holders at a car boot would be fun, I think. So glad that Gerard continues to get the medical support and both of you enjoyed your family time and can look forward to Christmas holidays.

  27. What fantastic bargains you've found! You'll have plenty to keep you occupied when the dark evenings arrive and it's too rainy outside. I don't really go to car boot sales but it looks like it would probably be a good idea.

  32. nothing strange about scoring a win! Lovely yarn additions and I'm glad your husband is getting more adjustments for a better quality of life, he (and you) are on my daily prayer list. I need to dig through what I've knitted and decide what is a present and what do I need to knit before Christmas is upon me.

  38. A GREAT SPELL CASTER (DR. EMU) THAT HELP ME BRING BACK MY EX GIRLFRIEND.
Am so happy to testify about a great spell caster that helped me when all hope was lost for me to unite with my ex-girlfriend that I love so much. I had a girlfriend that love me so much but something terrible happen to our relationship one afternoon when her friend that was always trying to get to me was trying to force me to make love to her just because she was been jealous of her friend that i was dating and on the scene my girlfriend just walk in and she thought we had something special doing together, i tried to explain things to her that her friend always do this whenever she is not with me and i always refuse her but i never told her because i did not want the both of them to be enemies to each other but she never believed me. She broke up with me and I tried times without numbers to make her believe me but she never believed me until one day i heard about the DR. EMU and I emailed him and he replied to me so kindly and helped me get back my lovely relationship that was already gone for two months.
