Summer Arrives

What a beautiful day here on my Island paradise, the sun is shining brightly and the temperatures have risen.  What more could I ask for...there are a lot of flies around but thankfully as we have a slight breeze the midges are NOT out and for that I am thankful.  I have been to my aerobics class, cut the lawn at the back and hung out the washing.  I have delivered some eggs to my neighbour and stayed for a yarn or two and now it is my intention to go upstairs and sort out the chaos I created over the weekend.

To cut a very long story short I made a start on culling my stash of craft materials or at the very least storing it better.  There were times when I wished that I had never started but there was also a lot of joy as I remembered some previous projects.  There was fabric from when each of the grandchildren were born, flowers from weddings and christenings the list goes on.  It was like opening the boxes of Christmas decor and remembering the places and people around each piece.  I remember now why this particular cull didn't take place prior to our move.  So once again it is staying.

The drawers and cupboard are now complete, they have been waxed and are now ready to be moved from the barn upstairs.  But this means the train diorama  must come down so we need help to get it all into position.  I am thankful we have good neighbours.

I did find some unfinished projects that need work and those will now take priority.  Honeys blanket has slowed down considerably of late.

A second shawl has been started and never finished.

The same for a knitted cowl, a second was started and never finished.

A baby blanket and baby bootees were a surprise, I don't remember who I started them for...who knows!

I prepared the meat for dinner this evening early this morning it is all ready to be popped into the oven with some vegetables.  Pork fillet wrapped in bacon stuffed with apricot and ginger stuffing, a firm favourite of ours using the Hairy Bikers recipe.

It will work well cold tomorrow with salad.

Well onwards and upwards I have sat for a short break so will get on with the front lawn and do some weeding.  The weeds are prolific in the pots and tyres, all this rain helps their growth.  I will catch up with you later, I am back outside to enjoy the Summer which took its time to arrive.  Almost forgot there's chocolate cake with strawberries if you want to join  me for afternoon tea.

See you soon.

  1. Periodically Miriam organizes her stash of fabric and it is a monumental operation I can tell you. She has more than some stores!

  2. Both those recipes look sooooo gooooood! Must look up Hairy Biker recipes! :-)

Yes, the weeds do sprout in flower pots! :-)

Getting your stash, as it pleases you, is a gooood project. Will make you feel so accomplished, when it's all done. :-)

    Yes, enjoy Summer...

  5. Lorraine, you're energy and industriousness puts me to shame. I went through my yarn stash a few months ago and ended up keeping almost everything. I just "know" I'll use it someday. I've been busy making baby things this week. Hopefully will finish the booties today and will wash and mail them off tomorrow. I have no idea how long it takes to get a package to the UK and I want this baby to be able to wear the sweater and socks before he's too big! He was almost 9 lbs. when he was born!
Your cake looks fabulous. Chocolate and strawberries are two of my all-time favorites and that pork recipe looks really delicious too.
I'm so glad I can comment again on your blog, but I surely do miss our emails too. :-) . Wishing you and Gerard a wonderful evening.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  6. Hi Lorraine! Oh, I'm so proud of you getting so much done. I have so many things I want to do but they seem to stay in my head and not get done! :) Love seeing you're unfinished projects. I have a few of those myself.
    Be a sweetie,
    Shelia ;)

  13. Uh-oh, I see you're getting spammed too.. I have them try to leave comments on my blog but I used a translator application and they are ads for dry cleaners and such. I mark them as spam and delete them.

I'm so glad you finally have some fair weather.. and I'm so impressed with all you get accomplished. I'd love to be your neighbor and be able to drop by for a spot of tea and some of that yummy looking cake!! Enjoy! ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  14. How do you manage to have so much energy to get so much done? Wow. I like the projects that you have unearthed and I hope you finish some of them. That baby blanket is really pretty, as is Honeys blanket. I just finished dinner, but that pork roast and cake look very tasty.

  17. I tend to get more than one project going at a time; and sometimes they get set aside. Good luck with progress on yours. It's always fun to find a forgotten project and pick up where you left off. Your cake looks delicious!

  20. How busy you've been! My yarn stash is getting bigger, but only because I'm adding new balls to my Stylecraft colours a few at a time, so they are unopened. Only the ones I'm using for my current project are open. I've knitted a new shrug with some 'posh' yarn. I really wish we had some rain, our garden is parched and it's to hot for me. Best, Jane x

I love sorting out in my sewing room and am due another session of it soon. My cross stitch is outgrowing it's allotted space and needs taming...lol.

  28. Thanks for always checking in on my blog, Lorraine. It is lovely to see when you have visited. Good luck with sorting the stash. I can kind of relate as I have been 'gifted' a couple of bags of other people's yarn leftovers so have also been sorting through materials.

Your weeds are thriving in the summer because of the warmth - in South Australia our weeds thrive in the winter because that's when we get rain!

So I will be thinking of the two of us in our parallel worlds both sorting through craft and garden stuff as I go. :-)

  31. A GREAT SPELL CASTER (DR. EMU) THAT HELP ME BRING BACK MY EX GIRLFRIEND.
Am so happy to testify about a great spell caster that helped me when all hope was lost for me to unite with my ex-girlfriend that I love so much. I had a girlfriend that love me so much but something terrible happen to our relationship one afternoon when her friend that was always trying to get to me was trying to force me to make love to her just because she was been jealous of her friend that i was dating and on the scene my girlfriend just walk in and she thought we had something special doing together, i tried to explain things to her that her friend always do this whenever she is not with me and i always refuse her but i never told her because i did not want the both of them to be enemies to each other but she never believed me. She broke up with me and I tried times without numbers to make her believe me but she never believed me until one day i heard about the DR. EMU and I emailed him and he replied to me so kindly and helped me get back my lovely relationship that was already gone for two months.
