Christmas In July

Sadly we have not been enjoying the lazy, hazy days of Summer.  The Summer weather seems to have passed us by but we have a lot to be thankful for so I am not complaining too much.  The incessant rain and lower than average temperatures have kept me indoors a little more than normal.  I have therefore taken advantage of the time and spent a wonderful few days enjoying Christmas in July.  I found a channel on the TV which shows some rather cheesy but uplifting Christmas films so there has been a lot of list making, planning and crafting going on.  We have now also made plans and booked our Christmas holiday away, so exciting times.

A start has been made on some of the wonderful panels that I brought back from America a couple of years ago...a swinging Santa holder and a Santa door panel.

These will become part of the package I sent to each of our daughters as an advent gift.  I am also working on a quilted table runner for another gift as part of a package.

I have trimmed a couple of tea towels to line baskets for hampers, they were fun to do sorting through my box of lace and crochet edges was quite the adventure.

Simple but effective and a lovely touch.

Mini rag wreaths were next on the agenda, using a curtain ring and scraps of fabric.  The fabric was cut to 1/2" by 5" strips and tied around the ring, a very easy and quick make which I intend to use as gift toppers.

Some coloured natural twine used for hanging to finish off.  One quickly became two and so on, I think you get the picture.

Not for everyone Christmas in July, but as a lover of Christmas I have quite enjoyed the process.

See you soon.

  7. Really nice! Your attitude regarding the cold, July weather is a good example to me. You certainly know how to stay busy and accomplish a lot! In the meantime, I am hoping and praying that your weather makes a turn for more seasonal temps.

  10. I think it’s easier to work on Christmas gifts in a climate like yours. We’ve had awfully hot and humid weather and no incentive to get busy with Christmas, that’s for sure. I love the trimmed holiday towels. So elegant!

  11. A good time to start on Christmas crafts especially when outdoor things are not on the cards. I would find it hard to turn off the Christmassy feeling again though! I made some lovely hangings to go above the inglenook fireplaces using that twine and tied fabric strips. Look lovely. I take it the wooden rings are what you made the hoops from. Lovely.

  12. I'm sorry your Summer weather is not cooperating for you. We've had some really lovely weather but with a few rainy days thrown in to water the growing things. I'm impressed with all the things you've made. You always inspire me. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  14. Where I grew up on the north coast of the states on Lake Erie Christmas in July is a really huge thing! But down here in mid Ohio not so much so. Every year I think I will get a bunch of Christmas stuff out and host a CiJ tea - but never do. It's hot and humid and hard to find the energy these days to entertain. I can't believe it's been cool there for you - it is unbearably hot here - too hot to do any gardening or spend outdoors. So sad.

Loving your crafts - you are so talented.

As always, thanks for popping in for a visit, and for leaving such sweet comments. It is greatly appreciated.

    Hugs.

  16. I love the Christmas tea towels!! By coincidence I received a box of pretty gifts yesterday from a friend far away. I e-mailed her that it was Christmas in July and that's what it felt like.

  17. I'm always impressed by your crafts for gift giving. Hopefully your weather will improve to give you some hint of summer. I'll trade you for our 90 degree heat that is now upon us.

  18. I like your trimmed tea towels. I thought about Christmas In July this morning when I went to a Flea Market and they had tons of Christmas decorations for sale. I didn't buy any, I have too much as it is. I hope your weather warms up soon. It has here. Too hot to continue my gardening and a lot of mosquitoes and flies now.

  19. What a positive way to make the most of a cool and rainy summer. Your Christmas projects are lovely. Hopefully, summer will come round and you'll be able to spend more time outdoors soon. It's cooler than normal here, too, but still warm enough (18-20) to work in the garden, and there's no rain.

  21. You have been busy making such lovely things. It's a good idea to keep busy whilst the weather isn't too good then you have free time to go out when the sun shines:)

  22. Apparently Christmas keeps you busy ! Christmas in July, how awful for me. When I was a child I loved Christmas as a young mother too, but now it's nightmare ! My son has married a Dutch and they don't celebrate Christmas at all !!! She has made an effort but still, and my grandson is only interested in the gifts, tree or no tree he doesn't care. His friends in Amsterdam have no trees except a few. Mostly strangers !

  24. Good Morning!! We on the other hand have been having sheltering heat and humidity which has kept me in the house with the air conditioning blaring but there is relief in the horizon in the middle of this week!! I too have been enjoying Christmas in July on the Hallmark channels and it has started me thinking of Christmas.Love your Christmas projects..I too have a panel or two like you shared tucked away somewhere that I need to find now...I did do some Christmas embroidery a while back that I have to decide what to do with...Thanks so much for taking the time to stop by for a visit.
    Hugs,
    Deb

  28. You have quite the start on Christman Lorraine. I love the trimmed towels and all fo your other projects too. I have been working on socks for the family which does take me some time to do. We're having an exceptionally cool summer too. We have the furnace on here at the lake tonight. It seems very strange to me.

  34. Christmas in July is on my bucket list for summer. I learned it from Carrie. Mine, however, will consist of lunch, music, some cookies and maybe a movie. I don't have your energy Dear Friend.

  35. I love seeing you share your crafts with us. The towels are oh so pretty with the Christmas cloth and lace added to them. The little wreaths make a wonderful decoration. The table runner and Santa are delightful too. You have many wonderful ideas to make great gifts.

  36. I think I enjoy watching Christmas films in the summer more than I enjoy watching them at Christmas. I think that's to do with the lack of pressure. I think Christmas in July is a good idea but we always have birthdays and wedding anniversaries to think about. And for the record, we haven't had many lazy, hazy days either, although we have had a few, but this week it's been warm and muggy with almost no sunshine. Bah humbug! x

  37. I think it's a good idea to start getting organised for Christmas, then it's not such a rush and reduces any stress levels.

    All the best Jan
