Indoor Pursuits

Thankfully the weather is improving here a little whilst we are still having rain it is not the heavy downpours we were having.  My heart goes out to all those who have been affected by these latest floods that are causing havoc around the UK and indeed the world.  We are certainly living in strange times weatherwise.  My grass is in dire need of cutting but it is still too wet to get the mower over it.  Tomorrow is another day...

In the meantime indoor pursuits are once again in progress so a few rows of crochet here and there have been added to the Nordic Noir shawl.

I love the simplicity of this pattern and it will work so well through the seasons morphing from a wrap into a thick Winter scarf.  The shawl is made in one piece from the top down, working in rows to form a triangle.

The sewing machine has been out and I have made a Christmas table cloth to line a hamper that I have in mind for my parents.

I have enough fabric left to edge a couple of tea towels.  Using the same pattern fabric but in a different colour I have also made a table runner with once again enough fabric to fancy up a couple of tea towels.

Two more bags have been added to the gift cupboard.  One using a Cath Kidston fabric and lined with a yellow check.

The pocket was a scrap of plain yellow fabric.  The other bag was Christmas fabric lined with a plain cotton inner.

Brooches are always a great make that can be popped inside an envelope, so I have made some for the gift cupboard using some Harris Tweed scraps that I had and used a felted flower for the centres.

As Gerard has had a flare up of RA he too has been taking things easy and enjoying reading, doing crosswords and jigsaw puzzles.  We were at the hospital yesterday so a change of medication should improve things and he was given a steroid injection which should make him a little more comfortable.  As I am typing this the rain has once again started, any hope of getting anything done outside is quickly fading.

Whats the weather like in your neck of the woods?

See you soon.

Your bags you’re creating are beautiful, I love making bags too and have sewn that very same pattern, I love a fabric bag, I would rather carry one than leather or plastic, your work is so beautiful stitching taken with such care, the brooches are really cute and so many gift options!

  6. Our weather has been out of the ordinary too. Lot's of dark days and rain; almost seems more like Fall. The crochet shawl is so pretty. I love watching old movies and seeing the woman wearing a shawl across their shoulders! Makes me want to learn how to make one myself. Your Christmas table runners are lovely and the fabric will make some nice tea towels as well. Those purses are amazing. Your flowers will make lovely gifts. Good for you to plan ahead and fill your gift cabinet! Get well wishes for Gerard...

Yes wonderful, to make Christmas presents, well ahead of time. And you are so very talented.

Rainy, rainy, rainy here, too. And I'm sure this weather, is harder on your husband's arthritis. Do hope the meds are of help.

  10. I absolutely adore that Christmas one. It's got my brain ticking over and it's about time too. I have sat around feeling sorry for myself for quite long enough and it doesn't heal my flippin leg.

  11. Always staying busy you are! This weather you’re having probably isn’t much help to Gerard...praying for a good response to the new meds. My weather has been coolish.

  12. Lorraine, you amaze me with your creativeness. I adore everything you've made in this post, especially that Cath Kidston bag. So pretty. I just finished a pair of socks that will be a Christmas present. It seems strange to be thinking of Christmas when it's so warm but if we want to have projects done, they must be started now, correct?
We're continuing to pray for Gerard. I'm hopeful that the injection has helped him find some relief.
Our weather is beautiful sunshine today. As I type, I'm listening to birdsong in the backyard.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

We have partly cloudy and 19C here near the beach in SoCalifornia. Typical June gloom.

  15. Christmas fabric is always so cheery!! I love the bags you make especially love the Cath Kidston one. Lining it with a yellow check was a great idea!
We're still waiting for some moisture. Any showers forecast end up hardly wetting the ground. Crazy weather for sure.

  16. What beautiful makes you've created. I'm itching to get started on some projects now that school is out - just have reports to write, and I'm heading over to the mainland to help out with the new baby, so sewing will wait a bit. It's so dry here, sunny, not too warm, and ever so windy. I'm getting tired of the wind.
Those bags are especially lovely, particularly the Cath Kidston one. Love her fabric.

  29. It's good that you have plenty of crafting and sewing to turn to when the weather is not so good. Your bags are so well made and will be much appreciated as gifts. I'm sorry that your husband is experiencing this painful flareup and hope the change of medication and the steroid injection helps a lot.

Sorry to read that Gerard is not too good at the moment, and hoping the medication will help.

We've had a lot of rain this week but as I type this the sun is shining so hopefully the coming weekend may be a fine dry one.
