New Arrivals

The girls have arrived and have settled in well.  Mickey has been up and inspected them and decided they are no threat so left them alone.  They are Black Rocks and apparently are good layers, I suppose we will soon find out.  They stayed in the coop most of the day and then got brave and had a little excursion around their new environment.  So here they are...

Six little ladies all settled in their new home.   We have a lot to learn but it is an adventure we are excited about.  I am a little behind replying to your comments but will be in touch as soon as I can.

See you soon.

  3. I really miss having hens. We had rescued from battery hens and it was lovely to see them grow their feathers and be totally free range. Very friendly and helped in the garden! And loads of lovely bright yellow yolk eggs.

  5. This is going to be fun watching your little ladies settle in. Just think of all the extra cakes you will need to make. Can I offer myself as cake tester.. :-)

  7. How exciting! My mum's grandparents had a farm and Mum spent a lot of her childhood there. We grow veg as you know, but I'm not sure that we'd be any good with livestock. I'm looking forward to following your new chicken adventure :)

  16. Bravo on welcoming your new hens! I didn't see any windows in the hen house - they need light to encourage laying eggs. I hope there is some light and some ventilation for them. Have fun with them! ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  17. I miss having hens! They all start out as one anonymous little group, but soon become definite personalities and are easily distinguishable. I buy our eggs from a neighbour now, they are good, but not nearly as good as the ones our own girls used to lay.

You have six beauties there. Lucky girls, they will have a great life with you.

  18. I wonder when they will each get names? Looking forward to hearing about their personalities - and their developing relationship with Micky. Good that he sounds to be OK with them - that must be helpful.

  30. Oh we LOVE chickens! We had small flock when we lived in South Africa and fell in love with how quirky they are. Despite popular belief, we found them to be very intelligent birds. We hope to have a small flock again next year.
