The Beast From The East

The Beast from the East has really shaken up Britain, causing havoc to transport systems.  The roads are treacherous with miles of tailbacks on many of the major roads according to the news.  Some areas are on red alert which means a danger to life.

There has not been the same issues here, the past few days have been showing signs of Spring and have been quite uplifting to both the body and soul.

Sadly, it didn't last.  Whilst we still haven't any sign of snow the temperatures dropped rapidly overnight.  The Siberian Beast from the East has frozen everything here in its path.  The pools of water across the moor are frozen and any water droplets forming icicles.  A beautiful sight, although only from the car window, it is Baltic.

We drove across the moor in a quest to establish what if any effect the closure of roads would have on the supermarkets here.  The ferries are still running although there have been some issues with flights, mainly due to problems on the mainland.

As we went into Tesco the fresh produce was limited with big notices up saying there was a delay with deliveries due to problems on the mainland.  The perfect excuse to go for fish and chips...I know, I am weak!  They were good.  We then went back and they had restocked and once again the fresh produce was plentiful.

We are now back home safe and sound with mugs of hot chocolate and a roaring stove.  I am so thankful for our warm and cosy cottage.

A very warm welcome to new followers, I do hope you enjoy my little adventures through life.  I hope the weather conditions are not affecting you too badly.  Take care and stay warm.

See you soon.

  4. We are staying in the warm and it seems that most of the village are doing the same, there has hardly been a car on the road. I am well stocked with food but need to check on a couple of neighbours in the morning.

  13. My beasts usually come from the West. A Nor’easter is expected to just kiss us and slip off to the south. I feel bad for them, but am happy to be on its north side. Glad that you are staying warm and cozy and I certainly hope that more temperate weather for all of us comes soon.

  16. Oh my....now you have started me wanting fish and chips...ha, ha, ha. I don't think we will be fetching any though as Andy phoned from work to say that the roads are treacherous and we have a lot of drifting due to the wind.

  18. Beautiful photos today. Fish and chips sound pretty good. I’m sorry about that beast that’s affecting your area so much. We had snow all morning here, but it’s finally stopped. Hopefully things will get back to normal for you soon. Drink some more hot chocolate and stay cozy and warm.
    Blessings always,

  20. I know it probably doesn't seem like it today, but it must be fun to live in a place that depends on the ferries and supply boats.

  22. Brrrrrr! Wonderful photos, but it does look cold! We are going back and forth with the weather, too. An afternoon or two of warm sunshine and then a repeat of the snow and cold. I know we will all be happy when the weather makes up its mind! Stay cozy. Hugs xo Karen

  25. It's times like these when I count my blessings, the poor souls that I've seen on the news who are sleeping rough in these conditions, well, it just doesn't bear thinking about. We're blanketed in snow here, though I think we've seen the worst of it now, it's not thawing yet though, it's just so cold. Your photos are beautiful, the last one looks very ethereal.

  26. When it's so cold outside your cottage must be very cosy ! I am back from Egypt fortunately without any problems also into the cold - 6 ! Other Britains were less lucky especially the Scottish they had no flight to Glasgow and are still stuck in Egypt !!

  36. There is nothing quite like getting back to your own cozy home and what’s better than hot chocolate and a fire. We have the chocolate but sadly no fireplace. Also glad you were able to get your shopping done and had a good excuse for lunch out. Thanks, Lorraine, for the congrats on our recent house sale. We are naturally happy it is finally done.

  37. Your images are amazing! This has been a dreadful Winter here in the States! However, many pretty natural sights to see with so much snow. Your hot chocolate and a fire sounds cozy and warm for such a frigid evening. Thank you for visiting Lakehouse, and leaving your nice comment, Lorraine. You are a sweetie.

  38. We had some warmer weather today and sunshine. Chilly once sun went behind the trees. Glad you are doing well and not completely frozen. I need some hot tea right now as it's chilly and a bit of relaxation in need after another trial of instant pot tonite. Lasagne and it was yummy! Blessings!
