Scenes From My Week

We have had a very icy week, with temperatures plummeting to all time lows in some parts of the Country.  The anticipated snow didn't arrive here on the Island.  None the less, we have had some cosy moments in the cottage with a roaring stove and candles giving it a romantic ambience.

Soup has been plentiful this week with several variations tried as well as the tried and tested.  I have been experimenting a little with the bread, trying different recipes but then gone back to what we know we like.

A multi seed seems to be the one we favour.  I had a request from one of our daughters to take some oils with me when we go down.  Basil oil and a mixed herb oil have been infused ready to take.

We have had the usual drive around taking in the local scenery.  This time we took a travel cup with us with coffee and sat watching the waves crashing along the shoreline.  The majestic sea taking on a life of its own, pounding, recoiling and once again thrashing into the rocks.  The Butt of Lewis is the perfect point to sit and admire the sea on three sides.

The single lane tracks can be a little hairy at times but at this time of year you have the road to yourself and can stop and start to admire the views.

Of course there has to be sheep...

...and a little sewing.  Hector's quilt is coming along nicely.

Slow but steady.

We have a cosy supper planned and a film for tonight.  Hopefully the weather is starting to improve where you are and Spring will finally emerge.  As always thank you so much for your uplifting comments and a very warm welcome to new followers.  I do hope you enjoy our little adventures through life.  Take care and stay safe and warm.

See you soon.

  2. I've never thought of infusing oils before. I bet they're delicious.
I think I might just light a candle myself this evening. I never seem to get around to lighting them by the time Lily is safely tucked away in bed. X

  3. That sea looks choppy so I think you did right watching from the warmth of the car. We had a little more snow overnight but I think we've seen the worst of it now, temperatures are set to rise a little this week. A cosy supper and film sounds good, enjoy your evening.

  4. Our weather was extremely windy yesterday - gale force at times. While I was in bed I heard what I thought was a tree coming down. It turns out that it was part of the large pine tree behind us. I hope they can save the tree because it's one of my favorites!
We lived on Cape Cod, Massachusetts for many years and I really miss the water. Your photos have been so wonderful and I've enjoyed them so much!

  12. Your sea is beautifully photogenic, as are most seas. I always enjoy reading about your daily activities. I hope the warmer temperatures come soon. They seem to be here for us this weekend - the sunshine holds a little warmth, and is most welcome after all the dull rainy days.

  13. Rugged, wild, and gorgeous! Good idea taking a thermos of coffee so that you could sit and watch all cozy. Soups and breads sound lovely. I managed to make myself some chicken soup this week, but really should have also made some bread.

  16. Great pictures of the wild waves crashing on those awesome cliffs. Makes me feel cold just looking at the pics. A nice hot bowl of soup and freshly bakes bread is a lovely supper.

  17. You do such a beautiful job with both words and photos of sharing your "little adventures through life" (did you say little?). I love seeing your pictures of the sea, but, as beautiful as they are, they still frighten me.

  26. Like you, we didn't get the predicted snow but we did get the cold "hunker down" weather. Now they are predicting a Nor'Easter on Wednesday. Loved your water photos.

  27. I like your drive to see the ocean. So pretty and cold? We're warming up thus week which is nice. We only had a bit of snow the other week and it left quickly here. Homemade bread is yummy. I should make biscuits tonight for the week. Always something to do. Have a good week!

  28. So beautiful but also the closer shot of the sea is a bit frightening. I’m one fo those people who love looking at the sea I adore it when it’s calm but as I can’t swim I’m equally terrified of how quickly it can change . Have a lovely week.

  29. The oils look very pretty. Soups are very comforting and always sound good to me. They go so well with that homemade bread too.

  31. Wonderful scenery - and thank you for the sheepie photo. We have been having a lot of soup too.. Our snow is finally thawing, and after being stuck at home for a week, we finally got out today.

  32. Wonderful coastline! I'm so jealous. Sigh.

  33. The coastline was nice to see but driving on the roads so close to the edge would make me a bit nervous, Lorraine. Thanks for taking that trip for me. Soup, homemade bread, candles, fireplace lit, and a film to watch sound like all good things.

  37. I was just listening to the Hebrides Overture by Felix Mendelssohn, with its wonderful Fingal's Cave section, and I remembered your pictures. This must have been the kind of imagery that inspired his work. Thanks for providing the visuals.
