Slow But Steady

It hadn't occurred to me that everyone wouldn't know what a car boot sale was until I read a comment left on my last post.    It then becomes very obvious that others wouldn't know either as it is a typical British phenomenon.   A car boot sale is a public event held in a large area where people get together to sell their unwanted goods from their car boots/trunks.   Much the same principal as a garage sale but a lot of people getting together.   You then pay a fee to the organiser for your pitch, a lot of events are held for charity and some farmers have diversified using a field as a way to earn money.  It is an ideal way of making money out of your clutter or if buying grabbing a bargain.   Some organisers also charge for entry (people coming to buy) I hope that helps.

We have had some very unseasonal weather here in the past few days including a little snow although it didn't settle.  The winds have been quite blustery so I have been happy to be indoors focusing on getting some more unpacking done.  It will be sometime before we get started on the outbuildings wanting to focus on the cottage both inside and out first.  I didn't want to use a bedroom for my craft essentials so the landing in the attic has been transformed into a temporary Mamas Mercantile.  I have arranged it into a ideal storage arena where I can find solace in some of my vintage finds that I treasure.  It will eventually become a little reading nook but in the meantime here is what it looks like so far.

It still needs a little work but I am getting there, one box at a time.   Mickey loves to go upstairs and sit or lie under the attic windows particularly when there is some sun.  We are thrilled with how quickly he appears to have settled into his new surroundings.

This is the view from the landing attic room.

I can just see the waves breaking on the rocks if I stand on tip toes.  Gerard torments me with his comments on what I am missing.  We intend to walk down sometime tomorrow if the weather holds, I am not one for walking in the rain if I don't have to.

The two attic bedrooms are now sorted just a few paint jobs to do once downstairs is done but it is comfortable enough for when family visit.

I need to unpack some suitable towels and hang the picture.

The nursery is one of Mickeys favourite places, I do wonder if he is looking for the children or enjoying them not been here.  They do pet him a little too much.

Slow but steady wins the race.  All the old and familiar ready for when the Grandchildren visit.

I thank you for all your comments and encouragement it means a lot.  A very warm welcome to new followers I hope you enjoy my little adventures through life.

See you soon.

  1. I've been reading your blog for a while - and do applaud you for following your dream for a new life. I'm enjoying reading about it all - the attic bedrooms look lovely. So do you have another bedroom for yourself as well as the attic ones? I used to read The Barefoot Crofter blog - I think its been taken down now? Did you follow that?

  8. It sounds like you're getting sorted, slowly but surely. It's a good job you've got the guest bedroom and the nursery done because I bet the family can't wait to come and visit, you'll have a steady stream of visitors wanting to pay you a visit. The views are beautiful and I'm so pleased that Mickey has settled, moving can be a bit stressful for dogs but just look at the fabulous playground he's now got. I hear so many people talk about their dreams, I'm so pleased that you took the plunge and are now living yours.

  18. Settling in does take time. You've made a lot of progress, and isn't it kind of the weather to be so terrible that you don't want to be outdoors? The attic bedrooms are looking so charming and welcoming.

  22. I grew up having a bedroom with one wall sloped like those in your attic rooms. I have always loved that look. In winter that part of my ceiling would be covered with frost!!
I hope you get a sunny day soon so you can walk down to the sea.

  23. Your guest rooms are perfect! And what a view. I hope the rain holds off so you can take a break and walk down to the sea. Don't forget your camera!

  27. I am thoroughly enjoying seeing your new home and how you've got the rooms all set up for your girls and grandkids to come and visit! I look forward to you showing photos of your beach visit. So, do you own the land from your house to the sea? Will you be using the land for farming or raising animals? ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  29. I absolutely loved everything about your post today. Thank you for explaining the car boot sales to us and for showing us your home. Well, what you've shown us so far is completely perfect in every meaning of the word. It looks so cozy, sweet and comfortable. To be able to see the sea from your house would be a dream come true for Dennis and myself. We love the ocean. It looks very sweet and as though you and Mickey are all ready for your first overnight guests.

  35. Your attic bedrooms are looking beautiful so it's good to know that you're settling in, unpacking and 'nesting' which is one of the pleasures of moving into a new place. I'm sure you're looking forward to exploring the local area down by the sea when the weather is better. Meanwhile you have those great views to enjoy from your windows.

  36. Thank you for sharing your adventures, Lorraine! You are reminding me of the seven years my husband and I got to live two blocks from the ocean in northern CA. It was a joy! May you and your family have many joyous years ahead. Your settling in is lovely to see as are the views from your home. [ Your boot sales are like the flea market I visited when living in San Jose, California...I thankfully never bought or brought any fleas home!] xx

  37. I have barged into your blog from somewhere else and it looks as though you are having a wonderful adventure!

  38. Wow...it really is coming along! Those bedrooms look so comfy and cozy and what a great idea for the landing area. I must admit that I was looking at the things in the background of these pics....the spinning wheel...I have one very similar and I love the table on the old Singer base. What a great idea!

  39. I like the grandchildrens bedroom with that skylight. Be nice to fall sleep while listening to the rain at night. You mention blustery winds, I would find that sound soothing to hear while working inside. A fine home you have along with that wonderful view of the water. I enjoyed reading your post and the explanation of the car/ boot sale.

  40. nice how you've decorated your attic landing and the bedrooms. I like the view out of one window with the white buildings, most likely a farm? Enjoy your new surroundings and decorating your new to you home! God bless!

  41. Thank you for explaining the car boot concept. I thought it was like our garage sales, but seems more like our concept of flea markets here in the USA. I love understanding the differences between countries, but really seems we are all more alike than not.
