Although I have been away for several weeks I am told despite the Winter having been mild there has been several damaging storms. The winds have been extreme which does affect the running of the ferry...lots of delays and cancellations. We did go to town last Thursday for a very disappointing shopping experience. The fresh food aisles were empty both in Tesco and the Co-op, I hadn't checked that the freight ferry was running. Big mistake to make. Thankfully we had enough to make do. I went into town once again yesterday and this time we had plenty of choice and I was able to stock up once more, prior to the arrival of storm Dudley which should hit later today early tomorrow. There was a little storm damage from a previous storm whilst we were away to the outbuilding which as yet to be repaired properly. Here's hoping it won't be as bad as predicted. We are as ready as we can be with torches/blankets/fuel to hand along with batteries/radio and snacks.
At the moment I am working on a crochet throw, which I want to drape over the pew. This has been a project on my list to do for sometime so as soon as the storm passes a start will be made on the pew.
I have been using Aran wool in the main with pockets of oddments used for the stripes to add texture. I am enjoying the process.
I am also working on a few small projects that I can carry with me and always have a project ready for on the go. A dear blogging friend sent me this stunning project bag a couple of years ago and it has become a constant companion.
We seem to be getting storms too regularly nowadays. It must be hard not to have fresh vegetables when you need them.
ReplyDeleteI'm just too happy that everything is in place for me now. I would gladly recommend the use of spell to any one going through marriage problems and want to put an end to it by emailing Dr Emu through emutemple@gmail.com and that was where I got the help to restore my marriage. Always a project ongoing here. The pattern and colors in your throw are very pleasing. I think the whole world is experiencing lack of product depending on the time. I actually take photos of wiped out shelves because it is shocking to me. Hope the winter storms are soon a thing of the past.
ReplyDeletelovely blanket, I'm knitting a feather and fan one out of old stash yarn!!
ReplyDeleteI hope the weather forecast is wrong and you are spared the winds that we are all expecting. It does so much damage doesn't it and there's nothing we can do about it but ride the storm. Snuggle down and stay safe.
ReplyDeleteNo storm, no rain here...And we need rain desperately...
ReplyDeleteLovely blanket...still needed here;)
Have a cozy day !
Anna
We are preparing for winds tonight too. They are expected to be damaging so we are moving vulnerable pots to sheltered areas and have folded down the garden table and chairs just in case.
ReplyDeleteWhat a shock to find no fresh fruit and veg in the supermarket, that is something I dread although we do have stuff in the garage freezer to be going on with.
Lovely book you have there!
Certainly where you live, you need to always keep stock in, just in case. Dudley not predicted too bad but Eunice will be worse for us. Gusts up to 85mph.
ReplyDeleteIt’s so great to see you back again although it must have been a challenging time for you away, my condolences to you and all your family.
ReplyDeleteThe wreath book looks interesting. I imagine you can make little bits as and when you have time and then have great fun putting them all together.
I hope all goes well with the storms, you are probably used to them by now and are all organised. I've been watching Michael Portillo on Mull, Iona and Staffa today, Skye, Harris and Lewis are to come, I'll look out for you!
ReplyDeleteHi Lorraine, It was great to hear from you. I'm glad that you're prepared for the storm. Hopefully the shortages won't continue or happen again. Our stores are woefully short of many things. Each shopping day, you have no idea of what won't be available until you get to the store. I've never seen it like this before in my life.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad that you're settling back into life on your special island. It's been chilly here with more snow predicted next week. Hopefully it won't amount to much. We're ready to camp, not shovel snow. :-)
Blessings
Betsy
I hope the storms that are coming won't be too destructive. It does seem as if you're ready for them though.
ReplyDeleteThat throw that you're working on is so lovely. The red in it looks great.
Keep warm and safe, GM
I do hope you are not too battered by the storm. You are well prepared in any case.
ReplyDeleteLove the stripes in that throw.
God bless.
Hello! So nice to read here again! Your projects are always so lovely, and I always enjoy hearing about your life there! Please stay safe and sound, and cozy as can be! Hugs from PA!
ReplyDeleteYou are so talented! Your projects are truly amazing - I haven't that gene at all and respect those of you who do.
ReplyDeleteStay well, stay warm and cozy! ♥
So happy to see you back, and that you are doing well! I always love to see the beautiful things you are creating, you have such talent! I'm glad you were able to be there with your dad, what a blessing! I hope you are able to get restocking of supplies soon for your little island!
ReplyDeleteHappy to hear you are doing well. I enjoy hearing about your crafts and bakery items. I like you have been dabbling with the water colors, it's fun.

Gosh, the wreath on the cover of your new wreath book is just lovely! The colors are so perfect, too. I bet it is really fun to look at all the projects inside. I live in the midwestern United States and we are in storm season, too. Two weekends in January we were snowed in with grandchildren. We had last weekend off, but the weather people are talking about an ice storm tomorrow night. Tis the season!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful crochet. I am so glad you are back to blogging I have really missed reading and seeing your island adventures. Take care of yourself.
ReplyDeleteWinter seems to be over here, but I know that there could certainly be storms yet. Your crochet is beautiful. Don't worry about keeping up with blogs and comments.
ReplyDeleteLovely afghan you are making! I hope the storm wasn't too bad! I am nearly done with prayer shawl. I finally found and ordered a shawl pin from an online company. I enjoy the shawls you made!! Have a good week!
ReplyDeleteI have followed your blog for ages, but have rarely had time to comment. We too are being battered in Cornwall and I'm just praying we don't get any damage in St.Agnes as we are open to the wind coming down from The Beacon.I am a crochet addict and have enough yarn to open my own shop lol.I have a book by Kate Easton Crochet wreaths and garlands beautiful book.Hope you will be ok there, stay safe.xx
ReplyDeleteI do hope the upcoming storm is kind to your island. It's lovely to see you writing again. I'm so sorry to hear about the loss of your father. Do take care and stay warm and cozy.
ReplyDeleteStay safe in the storm, it hit here on Wednesday night and more to come tonight and tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteHow lovely to have you back. Even though I don't have a crafty bone in my body, I am always fascinated by all the projects you have on the go. I would love that wreath on the cover of the book - just gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteHope the storm isn't too bad. Storms scare me but for some reason I feel like your little cottage would feel cozy and safe in a storm. I love the crochet blanket you're working on. It looks soft and comfortable and such pretty colors.
ReplyDeleteI hope the storm will pass by without causing any damage. Good to know that you are now well stocked up. That is a nice pew cover you are working on. It is good that you have so many things to keep you busy, no time is wasted.
ReplyDeleteYou are very kind ! Today we got the second storm from the UK !! I look out of the window and have a home cinema ! Fortunately I have everything at home and don't need to go out ! Your crocheted blanket is beautiful ! My Italian mother in law did similar once and I still have them must be over 50 years !!
ReplyDeleteI love your creativity. I hope you find time to start one of those crochet wreathes soon - the ones that Lucy does over at Attic 24 always make me want to pick up my crochet hook, but I got rid of pretty well ALL my wool stash before moving, only keeping very few special (e.g. expensive!) yarns.
ReplyDeleteI am currently diligently working on a little x-stitch piece to go on a quilt in memory of a grand-daughter who died at just a few months old. I am trying to make it as beautiful (the quilt generally) as I can, and have been given little bibs and muslin cloths that were hers so it is very much associated with the little one.
(Not my grand daughter as I don't have any grandchildren yet - it is for a friend who I have met since moving here.)
ReplyDeleteI do like the crochet throw/blanket you are working on ... lovely colours together.
ReplyDeleteI hope you stay safe in the storm.
We experienced Eunice (today, Friday) and fortunately we are okay, alas others haven't been and my heart goes out to all who have been affected.
Stay safe and warm.
All the best Jan
Lovely book. I knew you would like my Harris Tweed jacket, I was hoping you would see it. Happy crochet. Jo x
ReplyDeleteI always think that "fresh" food is a bit of a misnomer. If you think of the time from picking to kitchen, it is hardly fresh!
ReplyDeletehope you have survived the storms intact with no damage. Your blanket looks lovely and I am now off to search for the crochet wraeth book !j
ReplyDeleteLove the blanket! How disappointing not to have fresh produce, can't imagine it living in a warm country, glad you were able to finally stock up.

Gorgeous crocheting! Glad you were able to stock up on food. That must have been scary when the shelves were bare. I keep some extras in my stockpile, just in case.
ReplyDeleteWonderfully creative Lorraine! You make so many beautiful things and the blanket colour scheme is lovely. I particularly like the furry grey yarn you have used to create texture. Hope the storm has not caused too much damaged there on your island. keep well. Amanda x
ReplyDeleteWe had a terrible storm called Eunice which crossed whole Europe ! People at the coast had to lay down not to be blown away ! The waves were 20m and more high and airplanes couldn't land ! I thought of you on your island and am happy to hear that your house still stands ! So many roofs were blown away ! Fortunately here on my 4th floor I only saw the trees moving in the wind. Your crochet works are real nice I love the idea of a wreath !
