We are just back from town. We have had a trip over the moor to Stornoway so that Gerard was able to get the Covid vaccine. We received a phone call earlier in the week inviting him to attend this morning, it would have been churlish to refuse. I am thrilled that he has had it, a step closer to him feeling safe once more. Due to drugs/injections that he has to take he has a compromised immune system making him vulnerable. My parents have both had there's and our daughter who also has a compromised immune system had hers last Sunday.
We did carry on to the supermarket so that I could do a top up shop but sadly not a lot was available. Ferries have either been disrupted or cancelled over the last few days with more disruptions/cancellations predicted over the weekend. Weather conditions has been cited as the problem. Snow and road blockages on the mainland have been an issue for HGV vehicles getting up to the port. We are blessed that we have a big store cupboard so it isn't an issue for us. Toilet paper was once again sadly lacking on the shelves, that always makes me smile for some reason.
I have put the little bit of shopping away, had some lunch and lit the stove. It is my intention now to take things easy this afternoon and browse a few books for some inspiration for little gifts for the doorstep blessings project. I would appreciate any ideas that you may have.
It is blowing a gale outside, so hopefully better weather conditions wherever you may be. Take care and stay safe.
See you soon.
Glad Gerard has had his vaccine although the weather has not been great by you I see. I am struggling with blogging at the moment because the devices are being used by the girls and I end up with the arse end of the day. I read blogs on my phone but can never really coherently comment on such a small keypad but please know I am listening to you. Stay safe Lady. Jo xxx
ReplyDeleteI'm pleased to hear that Gerard has got his jab, it gives some peace of mind. Stay safe.
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear that the more vulnerable people in your family have had their vaccine now. I hope you don't have to wait too long for yours. I am still waiting to be called.
ReplyDeleteIt must be difficult to shop when the ferries or lorries can't get to the island, and a storecupboard is a real necessity. I have never been one of those folk who think one can of baked beans in the back of the cupboard is sufficient. We have weather issues here sometimes, this being the countryside and very rural, so it pays to be prepared.
I haven't reached the stage where I can sit down in the afternoon with a book yet, but hopefully in the next couple of weeks may make it!
Glad about Gerald having his jab but sorry about the supermarket situation. Good job you are used to keeping a good pantry. I have been called for my jab next week!
ReplyDeleteThat's nice that Gerard got his vaccin ! I don't know what they are doing here, we are far behind. I think my turn will come in March, but I don't know if they call, send a letter or an email. Not very well organized here ! Today they announced the openeing of the hairdressers and camping grounds, I don't care, just had an haircut at home and I never do camping ! I want the restaurants open just to go out once ! Or a cafe where to sit down and have a drink !I think that will not arrive before March !
ReplyDeleteIt's reassuring to know that the vaccine is being rolled right across the UK isn't it. We will be straight there the minute we are invited.
ReplyDeleteI'm happy that Gerard, some of your family members have had their vaccine and you've been able to get supplies in. With a gale blowing outside I'm pleased that you are keeping warm in your cozy cottage.
ReplyDeleteThat's too bad that the stores are running low on supplies. It's a relief when you have a stockpile. Sitting by the fire sounds warm and cozy, especially with the wind you can hear outside.
ReplyDeleteYay for Gerard getting the vaccine! I'm glad that he's gotten his first jab. We're both still waiting along with you!
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry about the shortages in your grocery and very glad to know that you always think ahead and have a store set aside for times such as this.
I'm woefully short of ideas for your doorstep blessings. You have a much better imagination for thinking up beautiful gifts than I do.
Wishing you and Gerard a safe and happy weekend and praying for a vaccine soon for you too my friend.
Blessings and hugs,
Betsy
cold here feels like 9 degrees, blustery and a good time for baking and oven work, moving my hook and enjoying being cozy.
ReplyDeleteSo good to have a full store cupboard, it reminds me of my Grandma's larder, always full!
ReplyDeleteThat's good news that Gerard has the vaccine. My husband and I had our first shot last week. I'm so thankful! It's so crazy that toilet tissue is so scarce. Glad your pantry is full. Stay warm and cozy!
ReplyDeleteA full pantry is a blessing. I don't understand the toilet paper panic buying, Covid rarely affects the bowel!
ReplyDeleteCurrently it's -30C and snowing. That explains why I have a store room. I can't face going out. even the dogs are refusing to go out unless it's absolutely necessary.
I'm a frontine nurse, Covid shots have been cancelled due to our government's dependence on overseas manufacturer. My doses and most of my coworkers doses have been redirected to nursing homes for the patients.
I hope weather conditions will improve and that ferries will be running as usual. Good thing you have a good store cupboard and don't have to be overly concerned.
ReplyDeleteGreat news that Gerard has had his shot.
I am pleased to read that Gerard has had his vaccination, they do seem to be rolling out well.
ReplyDeletePleased your store cupboard is full.
It never ceases to amaze me that it's toilet tissue that is always hard to get hold of!
Enjoy the weekend, although the weather forecast does not sound promising.
Stay safe and well.
All the best Jan
Glad that Gerard had his jab. DB and I had ours last Saturday. Its good you keep a store cupboard. I do too especially after the fiasco during the first lock down when people went mad and the shelves were empty.
ReplyDeleteSo glad Gerard has received his vaccine. Hubby and I are scheduled for March. So are our elderly mothers. So glad that you have a full pantry. Weather and the lockdown seem to be wreaking havoc for your. Stay safe.
ReplyDeleteWonderful that Gerard got his shot. Is he needing a second one?
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
Bravo for Gerard getting his vaccine.. Dayle got his through our Veterans US Department of Veterans Affairs. Me, not so lucky, our governor has decided us old ladies are last in line. I used to like her and now not so much. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)
ReplyDeleteSo glad Gerard got the vaccine. We get our second one Feb. 18th. I am dreading the second one. About making little gifts, a friend of mine is making kitchen boas. They look really simple to make. I had never heard of them, but I think wearing one would be more comfortable than wearing an apron. Lots of youtube videos on making them. I'm going to try one. Stay warm and cozy during the storm.
ReplyDeleteWherever I have worked, I have gotten tiny tins from the wedding aisle and made little sewing kits. A needle, some threads, a button, two or three safety pins! Then I glue a rhinestone or a paper flower to the lid of the tin.
ReplyDeleteLovely news! It's a nasty illness. I know a lot of people just have minor symptoms but it isn't that way for everyone and can drag on for a long time. I would be first in line if they let me get it!
ReplyDeleteIt's wonderful that you have food stored away, just for times like this! I hope that your situation improves with the food supply. I pray for you and your husband to stay healthy, many blessings to you both!
ReplyDeleteI am glad you have enuf food for now. At one point in a store here in town, there is one package of toilet paper allowed per person. I hope you are able to find some soon and the ferries and trucks are able to deliver them into villages soon. It's been a bit warmer today and I didn't even wear my coat when I went out to the mailbox to get the mail. I am not getting the shot for sure. I have not had a flu shot in a few years and I make through it if I do feel off. I am going to get a pneumonia shot eventually as my dr. says I need one due to my age and asthma. Take care and have a good weekend.!!!
ReplyDeleteHooray, that's a good job done. Fingers crossed the shop supplies pick up soon, along with the weather.
ReplyDeleteGlad almost everybody around you are vaccinated !
ReplyDeleteAnd your pantry is full !
Have a cozy weekend !
Anna
Great that those you care about have been able to receive their vaccines. I hope the weather improves soon and that the shelves of your supermarket get replenished:)
ReplyDeleteI do hope your supermarket supplies can get through soon, Lorraine, although I know you are well prepared. Good news about Gerard's vaccine. We had the Pfizer one which should give decent protection after about 3 weeks. Its the best way to halt transmission by having the vaccine i think and a responsible thing to do. I really don't mind being a guinea pig 🙂 Stay well x
ReplyDeleteOne less worry is out of the way, so good to hear that Gerard and other family members have received the vaccine. Hope your turn will come up soon as well. Distressing to read about the short supplies, but you always are prepared with your stored away items, which is good planning. Hope the TP shortage is only temporary and not a repeat of last spring. As for little gift ideas, possibly emory boards?
ReplyDeleteSo glad your husband and other family members have been able to get the vaccine. Not any available here. I can get it early because I am a healthcare worker but I would never jump the line to get in front, instead I will be as cautious as I always am. Stay safe.
ReplyDeleteSo glad you are getting your vaccines. We've had our first shot and will have the second at the end of the month. Have you thought about a teabag holder for your doorstop blessings? Here is one that is pretty easy. https://www.pinterest.com/pin/288723026112473971/ A cup of tea is such a comfort. I love your doorstop blessings!
ReplyDeleteAs you say, one step closer. Stay well. X
ReplyDeleteSo glad your partner was able to get the vaccine. Mine also is in the highest risk category but they are only going by age here. We are in that age group now but still none available for us. It’s discouraging. But still, I am so glad for every one who has received it!
ReplyDeleteGood to hear Gerard has had his vaccine. No idea when we will get ours here in Spain I think sometime in June. It is slow progress. I imagine you aren't worried about the shortage of supplies as you are so well organised and from what I read here have a marvellous storage cupboard full of goodies. stay safe Amanda x
ReplyDeleteglad Gerard has had his jab. Stay safe. x
ReplyDeletesuch good good news! I hope you can get yours quickly as well.
ReplyDeleteSo glad that Gerard has had the first vaccine. Our vaccine schedule has been slowed by production difficulties. Canada was very shortsighted in not producing anything here, although our research has been used, I believe. Glad you are cozy and warm in your cottage.
ReplyDeleteWonderful that Gerard has had his first jag, the world must seem a little brighter. My daughter had hers a couple of weeks ago and she said that she felt very emotional about it. I am sorry that the pandemic has come to your island, it's easy to think that a remote island could fend it off but I suppose that's a very romantic view. I'm glad your cupboards and freezer are well-stocked. Hang on in there and stay safe. x
ReplyDeleteGood to know that members of your family are getting vaccinated and hopefully more will be receiving soon. Sorry about the shortage of supplies in the stores. Glad to know that you have ample supply at home.
ReplyDeleteThat is good Gerard and other family members have gotten their jab. I got my first one about two weeks ago. Good to know you have supplies at home.
ReplyDeleteGood to hear this news Lorraine. I think we are all feeling a bit more positive once we've started the vaccine course.
