Window Displays

Another trip to Stornoway this morning for a hospital appointment, so I thought it prudent to have a quick look around the town centre.  I wanted to absorb the Christmas decor and appreciate the effort people have made to decorate the shop windows.  It was also nice to pick up one or two little gifts to add to Gerard's stocking sshhhh!

The tree was a delight and I loved the lobster pots around the base.  The trees around the square were also lit up so was a joy to see.

Let me take you on a short stroll around the shops so that you can see the decor.  Every shop has made an effort to decorate and lift our spirits.  Each photo has a reflection but I think that adds to the charm.

I am a great fan of the Harris Tweed shop, they really do stock so many choices of the fabric, it is difficult to choose.

The chemist is also a wonderful gift shop and at this time of year is a such a nice place to walk into and browse, you can always find something to buy.

The bookstore is another store that holds so much more than books so is always good for a trinket for the stocking.

The two windows above are from the charity shop, they are so well done and are a real delight to see.  The tinsel adorning the bodyform making it into a party dress is amazing, with matching dazzling bags and shoes a real temptation on top of the gifts.

Not a big town centre but enough shops to buy the necessities.  I did go to the supermarket and collect as much as I could in readiness for Christmas and as a treat we went to An Lanntair for breakfast.

I had the pancakes and Gerard had the traditional Scottish, it was very nice.  It was also good to browse the shop and admire some of the local craftmanship.

Christmas will be different this year that goes without saying so it was nice to get out and about for a few hours.  The bonus was we got some fresh air and supported local business's.  A little bit of normality did us the world of good.  It was so nice to finally feel a little festive.

What are you doing to introduce a little bit of festive cheer?

Take care and stay safe.

See you soon.

  1. Thank you for sharing your little outing, it was lovely! The windows look quite cheery and seasonal, I’m afraid I haven’t been out to see our nearby town’s decor, but since Gettysburg is still at heart a tourist town, I’m sure they are fun and pretty. We just got a foot or so of snow yesterday, the main roads are cleared, but traffic is definitely down. It’s perfectly lovely to see the snow and since our bird feeders are very busy, even our cats are happy!

  2. That was a lovely tour - I especially loved that red and white display. A friend and I are planning on driving around the neighbourhood this weekend to see some of the lights and we'll probably head downtown as well. Toronto usually has some really lovely displays.

We need some cheering up - it's more than likely that we'll be back into hard lockdown by midnight Sunday and won't open up again until Jan. 18. I got the last of the groceries this morning as soon as I got the heads up - I'll make one last trip to the office tomorrow - just for an hour - and that will be it for the next few weeks.

  3. Yes, how good to get out to savor the sights. The shop owners did a fabulous job of decorating those windows. I would love to go shopping there. And also good to have some breakfast and support those eateries. Times have been so tough for them. My daughter is coming to spend the night so we may go shopping and get some things done. It is always nice to have her in the house. I swear that I even sleep better. 🕊

  6. Your town really does a nice job of getting festive for Christmas. Ours doesn’t have many stores with windows to decorate left but it seems like people have gone all out with decorating their homes outdoors this year. It’s something they can still safely do during the pandemic, I guess. We are looking forward to get out at night this weekend for a Christmas lights drive. I didn’t know a traditional Scottish breakfast came with beans!

  7. I so enjoyed the tour of the shop windows today. I was especially surprised at how well the charity shop windows were done up. Very talented window designer. I'm glad you were able to get out and about have have a little bit of a more normal life.
I have our little trailer decorated as well as possible and were quite cozy here. A package arrived in the mail yesterday from Mandy so we even have a couple of gifts to open on Christmas. I bought Dennis a kindle last month and he bought me a new fitbit since mine quit working. We had decided that those were our Christmas gifts a bit early.
I hope you have a lovely day my dear friend.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  8. The window decorations in Stornaway were the most festive I have seen as there are not many retail stores in downtown Nashua, which is predominately restaurants. Thanks for the holiday tour and the Charity Shop display was very nice and my favorite here.

  10. I enjoyed walking down the street and gazing into the shop windows each one so nicely decorated. In a normal year my second oldest daughter and I have always done just that but unfortunately not this year.

  14. All the shops look so festive and pretty. We live in a small town too and not even one of the shops is decorated pretty. In fact the only place to shop is the Walmart here and a couple of drug stores. You live in such a beautiful place. Things are certainly different this year.

I'm not really a Christmas person, but I do enjoy dressing up and we're having fun with our outfits at the charity shop where I volunteer.

  21. Such wonderful window displays. It's been a tough year, especially for shops, so I appreciate that they're still making an effort to bring some Christmas cheer to their customers.

  22. What great christmas windows. It certainly is good to get a little normality back to life and great to support local business, this year, almost everything gift wise has been bought from local independent shops. We do need to help them continue. It's such a worry isn't it. And thanks so much for continuing to visit my daily December blog posts, much much appreciated. Warm greetings to you xxx

  24. Thank you so much for sharing your photos, we have nothing as lovely as that here. The shops look beautiful and I would love to have a browse in them and buy some pretty bits and pieces. We are not looking very festive at home this year, our only nod to decorations are a door wreath and a few lights on a potted conifer in the back garden! I don't feel very christmassy at all. G and I don't exchange gifts and others who we normally exchange gifts with are are not risking it this year. Unless we can get to see our daughter and the grandchildren on Christmas day we will have nothing to open. We are definitely on Santa's naughty list 🤭
Have a very happy Christmas MM 🎄 Christmas blessings to you and your loved ones xx

  25. Thank you for the nice tour around the city ! Our city is als decorated but rather depressing, because you have beautiful decorated window shops and then empty shops which went bankrupt due to dear Coronavirus. It's really bad. Then only one person is allowed in a shop in Supermarkets only one perso is allowed in the husband or wife or friend has to remain outside ! (with the result that they go in separately and meet inside !!) I wait for the moment we are all getting numbers !
