This and That

The last few weeks have seen a crafting frenzy going on in this little cottage of ours.  I have had so much fun, planning little gifts for everyone.  I love the process of browsing through books and patterns, making lists and then making.  Even better the wrapping and embellishing of the gift, I love to make toppers and bows for my gifts.  A gift within a gift if you will...

I have decided to once again wrap in brown paper, so these bright burlap bows will give a touch of colour.  I did use a bow maker for the bows above and adjusted the rods to get a variety of sizes.  The Christmas music is now on and Gerard can often be heard singing along.  We like to get our jobs done and sit down for a film together about 3 o' clock, it is usually the Christmas channel.

Then I added to the pile some poinsettias adorned with a beautiful button, you do need wired ribbon but again they can be differing sizes.  One very quickly becomes two and so on.

I have also added some more soap, this time small Christmas trees.   Once again using melt and pour base soap and adding the scent of Christmas tree.

These have been put into a couple of glass jars and a linen stamped topper used to finish it off.   The stamp used was a Christmas tree to reflect its contents.  The perfect solution to any gift that needs adding to or spares for those unexpected guests.

Honey our youngest Grandaughter requested a picnic blanket so that she could have tea with her friends.  They all know who to phone when they want something making.  It was quickly made and posted so she could enjoy afternoon tea.

It certainly is a wonderful time of year.  Although I am aware how hard it can be for some.  The list is going down quite quickly as I cross each little thing off.  At one point I was adding more than I was ticking off, the frenzy before the calm.  Are you a list maker?  I have added some more Harris Tweed notebooks for that very thing, list making.  Another little gift, made with love.

Gerard is going across the moor today for his assessment I will go with him and have a walk around the town and the new An Lanntair display.  We are then across again tomorrow as I have an appointment with the Consultant regarding my shoulder which is still very painful.

As always I thank you for your visit, support and comments.

See you soon.

  2. Finally trying to catch up with all I have missed. You have been busy. Such wonderful gifts. Hoping that I can eventually get myself organised and motivated enough to get back into crafting as it always brought me such pleasure.

  4. Your crafting is wonderful! I don't have the attention span or the fingers for crafting, Knitting, sewing and now crochet in dribs and draps is about as much as I do crafting. I do love those little notebooks :) I hope your assessments go well. Best, Jane x

  6. You have so many creative ideas for your gift making. I particularly like the notebooks using your lovely Harris Tweed pieces. You must be very popular as your family know their requests will be fulfilled to their delight. I hope the medical appointments go well. I do make lists. Today we had our central heating boiler serviced and a new kitchen tap unit fitted. I write down questions to ask the experts such as the plumber. My husband is handy around the house, but a plumber is a good asset.

  10. The flower bows are going to look so pretty on the brown paper wrapped gifts. The notebooks are a nice way to use up small scraps, and useful, too. Great idea!

  12. You're so clever! I usually leave the wrapping until last minute, but you're inspiring me to try harder. Love the name "Honey". How "sweet"! People around here have been giving me a hard time for listening to Christmas music so early, but I figure since I'm making Christmas decorations and gifts, the music is appropriate. Nice to know someone else agrees! Happy list making!

  13. What an inspiring post Lorraine. Your bows are just beautiful. I especially like the poinsettia ones. I can just imagine Gerard singing around the cottage while you’re busy with your making. How fun is that? I think I’m going to stop at the craft store soon and look for the melt and pour soap. That would be a perfect little gift for the ladies at our Bible study. I will be praying for both of you and your appointments. Blessings, Betsy

  16. Wow! Your cottage is buzzing with activity . . . I love how you make the fabric caps for your jars. They are so pretty! The Christmas tree soap is such a sweet idea and looks amazing in the jars.

On the comment that you made about my watercolor quilt. I just want to tell you . . .Thank you, and while I was experimenting with the paints on the fabric I figured out that if I got the fabric sightly damp the paints blurred out and had more of a watercolor effect, otherwise they just looked painted. Just a tip for you to try.
    Have a sweet day.
    Connie :)

  17. I do believe I know where Santa's workshop is! Not the North Pole, but the Isle of Lewis! Your gifts are lovely and so creative. Love the sweet little tea blanket for Honey--darling♥

  18. You are so creative and industrious.. a real inspiration! I love all the things you made, the notebooks are so neat! I hope the doc can figure out why your shoulder is not improving. I jammed my shoulder in a fall several years ago and to be honest it took a long time to get better, but it did. Can you have Gerard massage it for you? That helped mine. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

I am doing less this year...maybe next year...half again as much although people like them for gifts at Christmas and my boss expects on every year! Hope all is well my friend!
