How Does Your Garden Grow

Once again I am going to have to take a blogging break.  This time I am travelling down to England later today to visit my parents.  We were due to visit them in March but our plans had to change after Gerard's heart attack.  Their health has sadly deteriorated over the last few months and Dad had a fall late last week.  Whilst there doesn't appear to be any serious injury it has unsettled me.  I am flying over to Edinburgh and then on to Norwich where I will be met by our daughter Victoria, it will be nice to have some quality time with her too.  Gerard will remain here as he is still in rehab and has hospital appointments pending.  I have been busy batch cooking lots of meals for the freezer so he won't have the bother of cooking for one.

I have taken lots of photos of the garden so that I have them for our records, along with some notes has to how they fair in this windy area.  We are quite open to the elements here, not far from the sea so wind can be quite damaging.

We have just put up a little picket fence around a small patio area which is quite sheltered.  Our intention is to move some of the pots of herbs there.

The front garden area is protected by a stone wall so the plants there are doing quite well.  Let me take you on a little tour.

I am quite pleased with the start we have made and will work on one little area at a time, enjoying the process.

I must admit to feeling a little unsettled, excited to see my parents but nervous about leaving Gerard.  Time will tell how everything will work out.  I will be back soon.

See you soon.

  1. I hope all goes well with your visit. I can very much understand you feeling unsettled, it is always difficult when family are a distance away. I am sure all will go well. Take care. Lovely to see how your garden is progressing. It is good to document it, so you can see the progress over time and also as you say, what works and what doesn't.

  2. Your garden is looking lovely - not easy in our climate! Loved all the crafty projects in your last post - I am also having issues with not receiving email notifications from blogger - disappointing! Hope your trip goes well.

  3. Wishing you well for your travels. Being away from family is unsettling at best of times but more so when someone is unwell. I am sure the little community you have moved to will be keeping an eye on Gerard :-) and offer assistance with appointments etc
Meanwhile I hope you will feel a bit more yourself once you are with your parents and daughter.

The winds in the West are fierce, it is nice to see that you have managed to grow a little garden with plants that are thriving in the conditions x

  5. I'm sorry to hear your parents are failing and I hope you will have a good visit and share lots of love. It must be hard to leave Gerard to his appointments alone. Your flowers are lovely.

  7. You are doing well with the garden, I think it's so helpful to have some vibrant colour to cheer the spirits on the dreich days. Travel safely, you must feel a bit torn having to leave Gerard. Sending hugs. x

  10. Your plants look so pretty and your lawn is so green! I love your sharing of your life near the sea! Here in the middle of the US we have pastures and fields of wheat and corn everywhere we look. Prayers for your parents, for you to travel safely, and for your hubs to be healthy. Enjoy your trip!

  12. Thanks for the sweet photos of your garden, I also plant a lot of things in tires and find that anything in the squash and pumpkin family seem to do very well in them.
I'm the same way when I go off visiting family by myself and leave my Steve at home. He has diabetes and has to be reminded all the time to take better take of himself. When I'm away he forget to check his sugar and gets lazy about eating right and doing his meds. They are just little boys in big bodies, LOL.
I hope that you can relax and enjoy your visit and that everything is fine with your folks.
    God bless you.

  16. Your photos are lovely. I can tell the care that you’ve put into your little garden area already. I’m so sorry to hear about your father‘s fall. It is so hard to have family a long distance away. I understand. It takes 26 hours to drive to where most of our family lives, including Dennis‘s mother. Flying there takes all day.
I think it’s normal for you to feel unsettled about leaving Gerard at home. You have done everything you can to make his time without you easier. I’m sure every time he heats up one of your meals he will be wishing you were there. Enjoy your trip. Enjoy your time with your family. My prayers will be with you.
    Blessings, Betsy

  17. Your flowers look lovely and it's a good idea to grow those that'll withstand the wind and place in sheltered areas where you can sit and enjoy them. I can understand regarding your concern for your parents' health and I shall be thinking of you at this time that all will go well as you visit and also for Gerard at home. God bless.

  18. Your garden looks very pretty now ! When you can do it yourself it's great, but although we have a rather small garden I have to hire a gardener and it becomes expensive ! Have a nice trip to Norwhich and enjoy your family !

  29. May everything go well...it's always better to have a good honest look at things to help you decide. There's been a fall resulting in a broken hip in my family so I understand that unsettled feeling.

Gerard will hold down the fort and, with your foresight and planning, will eat well. Take good care...

Oh your plants look very happy!
