Five on Friday

I have had a lovely morning visiting my dear Mum and Dad, it is my Dad's birthday.  It is a joy to see all the cards and gifts that the family have sent him.  He also received a lot of emails with lots of wonderful messages and photos of the children, making it a memorable day.  Each year now more special as illness takes hold.  I am thankful for the additional time that we have with him and feel blessed that we live so close and can help despite my weariness at times.

Friday has come around so quickly this week time seems to be flying by at the moment.  Friday means linking to Amy over at Love Made My Home for the weekly Five on Friday meme.

One

I have had rather an unusual visitor to the garden this week.  A young Badger, yes you are reading this correctly a BADGER.  I was as surprised as I am sure you are.  The quality of the picture is not good as I didn't want to startle it.

A badger hiding in the undergrowth by the side of the shed, seeing is believing.

Two

It must be the pheasant season as we seem to have one constantly perched on the fence or the stile at the back of the garden.

Three

Work continues on some little token gifts I send overseas to old friends, just to let them know I am thinking of them.  One friend is into recycling and lives a frugal lifestyle so I have made her some stitch markers out of old jewellery that she will love.  The sewing machine is new and will go to another friend who also loves to sew.

Four

My husband and I have spent some quality time together trying to do a jigsaw.  It makes us both laugh how long they take for us to do these days, but we still enjoy the process and chat whilst looking for the pieces.

Five

Finally I have been busy in the craft room daily, spending a lot of time in there as one of Santa's helpers.  I have made a start on some little felt owls that are filled with lavender dried from the garden to top some of my gifts.

I do so wish you could smell this room at the moment it is beautiful.  The scent of a season gone lingering on and reminding us of what to look forward to.  I hope you pop over and see what everyone has been up to this week.

See you soon.

  2. Those puzzles are good for the brain and yours looks challenging for us older folks who have no idea what the superheros are supposed to look like. Loved seeing the critters around your place. You're right about Friday coming so fast! I started reading with the thought of why you posted your Five on Friday on Thursday morning...until I realized it IS Friday...duh!

  13. Time with family is precious, especially those hours you spend with your parents. I'm sure your Dad is enjoying his special day. Best wishes to him. I had forgotten you live next to some fields so no wonder you see a lot of wild life around your house. Doing a jigsaw puzzle with your husband must be relaxing. Watching television and gardening are the only activities my husband and I do together in the home at the moment. I like the cute owl lavender bag. What a lovely idea!

  25. A badger visit might be okay, but what if he takes up residence? (Oh the stories I could tell about a family of groundhogs who decided to take up residence under my deck. Ackkk!)

So glad that your father had a happy birthday with all the cards and messages honoring him.

What fun to have your husband join you in puzzle making! I think it sounds cozy and companionable.

  29. So nice to celebrate another year with your Dad. Mine used to live right up the lane from me and even though it is getting to be nearly 5 years that they both are gone, I miss them every day. Always love seeing what you are working on - the stitch markers are wonderful and so are the little owls. You are so creative! Loved seeing the badger and the pheasant, too. Such a nice surprise! Hope your weekend is lovely. x Karen

  34. Dried lavender smells so wonderful inside little goodies like your owls. Nice idea! I'm glad your dad had a good birthday and I pray he stays around for awhile. It's hard when parents are gone. Sigh! I was out with a friend today and we saw some long necked white birds that we'd not seen before. Not geese. Maybe swans or..... hard to tell when you are driving 65 mph on the interstate! Happy weekend my friend!!

  50. When I see a puzzle, I'm reminded of the joke where the blonde says, "Ha! Blondes aren't that dumb. I finished this puzzle in six months and on the box it said 10-12 years".
